Since Vangelis has been mentioned repeatedly...
I was just listening to another track by Brian Bennett and found the brass sound similar to Vangelis' CS80 brass sound. I wonder if Bennett also used the CS80, albeit four years before Vangelis on Blade Runner...

Read this article which is an interview with Hank Marvin. You will see a mention to the CS-80:

And Brian's son, Warren, is much more keyboardist than his father (who usually plays mainly drums and only a bit of piano, rarely other keyboards). I have several albums from Warren Bennett (who is really a great keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist) and I really love all his albums. But probably that my love for these albums will not be shared by many people because they are mainly... Ambient and New Age music.

Found out that all keyboards (i.e. Rhodes and synths, whatever they used) on that Brian Bennett album were played by Francis Monkman...

Doesn't CS-50 have the same insides as CS-80? Its probably cheaper to acquire that or a monophonic CS-30 for modelling.

Yeah but it doesn't have dual VCO-VCF-VCA lanes, so it's only one osc per voice. It's basically half of CS-80 without ringmod and lots of other things...

On the subject of Brian Bennett, I'm surprised at how he isn't so well known (at least imo as he should be) outside of music industry professionals.
His is a name which seems to sneak under the radar a bit, despite his varied and impressive CV.

For example, any rugby fans alive in 1980s Britain will recognise this wonderful tune called ''Holy Mackerel'' composed by Brian Bennett:

I've always been tempted to try a dub reggae version of it!

Yeah, good luck finding a CS80....even if you have a spare $30k burning a hole in your pocket. They rarely are available for sale due to the small number of them that were ever built. Personally I would get the ME80, because the Arturia version sounds lame IMO.

There is usually one or two available at any given time on Reverb. At least any time I've looked. Here is one for only $18k in working condition for local pickup.

These things were hard to maintain when they were brand new. Couldn't imagine how difficult the upkeep is on one today.

I saw one sell for $30k a couple years ago, but now at only $18K I'll have to just give up coffee for a few months so I can save yo for one. :tu:

Give up coffee? No synth is worth that. :P

If I remember correctly, there was something special about that $30k CS-80. Maybe it had MIDI or something.

So,
after almost 7 months,
nothing better than the ME-80 not is in the top ?

Correct.

What exactly is it you are looking for when you mention "better". You realize that what you hear on records is NOT the CS80 alone, right?

Both Arturia CS80 V and Gunnar ME80 are great emulations, and sound very good. If that's not enough, maybe you should look for the sound you want somewhere else. Maybe it isn't the CS80 sound you are after.
