I've looked through the database and failed to find a free sample player for the GIGA format. Does anyone know of one I can possibly find elsewhere? CHEERS!

I have personally never seen one. Your best bet is to find a cheap sampler that works with GIGA files. I think Directwave does this, and it looks like a pretty good program. It is the program I'm looking into getting personally. :-)

I use VSampler 3. It imports Giga (and Halion) better than Kontakt, sounds better, and is much cheaper. Still not free, though.

Yeah, I know that most of the quality samplers will import the format, but not any free ones.

Directwave was the least expensive high-quality sampler that I could think of that has Giga support....in other words, it was the closest I could find to what the original poster requested.

The only freeware VSTi that is supposed to load and play giga files is SynthFont (which should be in the database). Haven't used it for this purpose yet , but the SF2 support already is pretty well.

I was absolutely sure that you were wrong so I went to the Synthfont web page to verify and check to be sure, and looky what I found: :)

From the synthfont website:
- Tracks view. This view actually contains two parts: the synth engine and the tracks list. Use the synth engine part to add VST audio effects to on of the 16 channel busses or to the main effect. Use the tracks list to assign sound sources to the tracks. You can assign SoundFonts, GIGA files, DLS files, WAVE files and VST instruments. Each track can have its own set of sound sources. Here you can also add and delete tracks, mute track, play tracks solo, etc.

Hmmm... I never knew this before. Interesting. Thanks for the info. :D

The only problem is that it isn't a "traditional" VSTi plug-in.

Look for the VSTSynthFont which is the VSTi version.

Yep , this should be interesting , a sampler made by the sample format specialists .
I already invested in the latest EXSC version myself which will give a good deal on the sampler when it's released.

I have VSampler, Kontakt, and sfz+giga, but I am waiting for this one as well (as an EXSC owner I'll get it at a reduced price).

I admit some GigaLust for the GVI...

Wow! This sounds interesting! How much will it cost? When is the expected release date?

But, Doug, wasn't jumping on the sfz+ gig beta one of the best moves you ever made. I know I am grateful I picked that up, even though I have Kontakt 2 and VSampler.

Agreed, but I have run into a few Gig3 and a few "questionably constructed" Gig2 (probably translated from something else) that don't play well in either ... but that means it probably won't work well in anything much other than maybe Giga itself.
