I am having trouble recording a midi track when using the "Auto" setting on BB. I start BB and hear the output from my audio out. I click record and it looks like the track is recording, but when I stop recording there is no midi track.
If I use the "Manual" setting and perform the same steps,I have no problem recording the midi track. I am using Mackie Tracktion2 software. Thanks for your help Bruce Maxwell |

Sorry to ask the obvious, but have you selected Midi out under the hood? ---- john-studio64 |

I've tried it with midi out selected and unselected on the edit screen. No difference in operation.
The only thing I am changing is the Auto and Manual selection on the main page. Manual works (Midi track is recorded) and Auto does not (No Midi track recorded). Bruce Maxwell |

I don't have traction, but I imagine it's similar to Cubase.
You need two midi tracks One set up normally ie Keyboard input and broom output. A second midi track with Broomstick input. Is this how you are trying? ---- john-studio64 |

As studio64 points out, it's important to get the "traffic" right.
When using MIDI out (so that BB spits out a track with edit-able MIDI notes), you must make sure that the track you use for recording has BB selected as its input. Normally you'd use your MIDI keyboard as a MIDI track input, but when using the BB MIDI out feature, you must make sure that BB is actually feeding the MIDI track in your host. |

I have been searching the forums and came up with this:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/archive/raw_material_software/ 2004-03/39182.php I haven't tried it yet but it seems like a solution (if GA and BB are similar when it comes to midi out). Seems a bit tricky but it could work and I will try it later. ---- Macbook Pro 2009 2,53/4GB/OSX 10.6.8 Studio One v2 demo, Logic Express 9, Garageband 11, Cubase Artist 6.5, Tracktion 2 |

OK I have a solution for you. The short answer is that you have to enable "Pass midi data through filters in the edit" when exporting the midi file.
I will post a more detailed tutorial i a short while. ---- Macbook Pro 2009 2,53/4GB/OSX 10.6.8 Studio One v2 demo, Logic Express 9, Garageband 11, Cubase Artist 6.5, Tracktion 2 |

How to make editable midi from generated patterns by Broomstick Bass or Groove Agent in Tracktion
CREATING A MIDI CONTROL TRACK Start Tracktion and load a project. Drag Broomstick to a empty track (I then name the track BB). Whith BB to the right on that track select the white input arrow and choose your soundcard midi adapter as input (not needed if you create a midi file manually). The output of this track should be Default audio output. Now you can control BB with an external keyboard or by clicking the BB keys. Set midi output to On in BB. Also set Auto on. Set the start and end markers to an area where you want to record (in punch-mode). Now click the red Record button on the white input arrow to the left. Play your midi keyboard (the BB keys does not record). The single notes you press are recorded as midi. When you playback your track you hear the autopatterns played. As an alternative you can create the midi by hand by clicking the piano roll into a midi clip. EXPORTING PATTERNS TO A MIDI FILE You should now have a midi clip with base notes to control BB (or GA) Set the start and end markers to tell what area you want to export. (You can now select the track and export directly to wav if you like) Select Export - create a midi file. Click Only render marked region Click Only render selected clips Click Pass midi data through filters in the edit (important) Press Render and name the file so you can find it BB.mid for example PLAYBACK Now import the new midi file (BB.mid) to a new empty track. After importing the midi file to a new track, drag a new instance of BB or GA to the right side. Don't forget to put BB in Manual mode before playback. Press run and listen to the result. Phew! I hope I got everything right now, or else let me know ---- Macbook Pro 2009 2,53/4GB/OSX 10.6.8 Studio One v2 demo, Logic Express 9, Garageband 11, Cubase Artist 6.5, Tracktion 2 |
