To laymen, software development is something akin to wizardry. Neither time, nor effort are involved. If software is missing features they want, or has bugs, it is solely because someone has been too lazy to wave their magic wand.

I'm really pleased at how light and entertaining his writing style is. I was worried it would be a big angry rant the whole way through, but he takes an almost humorous approach at various points which makes it very pleasant to read.

Last book I finished was Pynchon's 'Against the Day'. Amazing read, IMO his best since 'Gravity's Rainbow'.

Currently anxiously awaiting Thomas Ligotti's 'The Conspiracy Against the Human Race', forthcoming from Durtro.

I'm just finishing that up. Good book. Also reading "Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity", by David Lynch and "Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World", by Paul Stamets.

The Black and Decker Complete Guide to Home Wiring. Light on character development but the technical details are... well, not riveting... wire-nutting? Yes, that's it.

At the old place I've been reading the same book Millie's been reading, "Flush" by Carl Hiaasen. His books for adults seem to have two-word titles, while those for kids and teenagers have one-word titles. The stories are about the same but the ones for younger readers leave out most of the cussin' and "adult" situations. They're all a hoot. Including Hoot.

This thread....

Actually I don't really pick up a book to read. My wife keeps telling me I should but I don't have time and I'd much rather do something else instead.

Tonalaxis: I only read when I go to bed these days. Makes it take a while to get through a book, with me falling asleep while reading and all.
