Hi All

As some of you may know, I went with Camel Audio to partisipate in NAMM, then afterwards, we went on an excursion into Death Valley. When I was there, I did some feild recordings and also recorded myself playing a newly aquired Lokato Flute in the desert. Here is a short piece inspired by that wonderful place:

Very nice, Tim. You've captured the spirit of that place. I remember backpacking in Death Valley years ago- it snowed! There's something about sites that aren't beautiful in conventional ways (austere, seemingly lifeless) that really invite the expansion of one's mind. Utah and Nevada are full of them- and above the timberline of the Sierras lies another of my favorite wandering places.

Do more!

Thanks Dave. That would have been cool to see snow in the desert, although at night, it got pretty cold, but the stars were so clear.

Here is my NAMM report which has pics from the desert, although I did not bring my camera on our main day of desert rompling. So many different terrians. It was very nice.

You have to forgive the quality of the pics..I was using a not so good camera and did not realize it until I transferred the images to the computer, but it will give you a good idea of our trip!

I did this in word, then converted it to HTM..not the greatest way. It converted my smiles Smile into J's..so whenever you see a J..its a smile Smile

BTW: the laugh you hear at the end is Ben laughing pitched down a bit. Sounds pretty cool!

Thanks Jim. Too bad you could not come with us. I kinda wonder what Desert music you might produce. Probably something VERY tribal Smile

There was also another occasion when I sat down in the middle of this huge salt flat expanse and Colin filmed me playing that flute. It would be intersting to see how it turned out. I had brought an M-Audio Micro-track to do field recording and it also did the flute recordings. One trick I used was to place the microtrack at a distance, and then walk away ( which was that walking sample)and play so you hear the ambience of the place. Although I did use masterverb in extreme settings in the mix Smile

Anybody use feild recordings like this in a peice..or have you been inspired by the desert?
