I've had a series of long-sought after purchases this week. Normally I curse the shit out of having 2 jobs, but having a Microwave XT and a Doepfer Pocket Dial in my future makes me a bit hot.

Seriously though, you post a lot of what you say and do here, and I don't think you have anything that you need to take blame for. If you had the power to change anything we all know you would, so don't beat yourself up about it - it's all part of life's lessons and you can never dwell on that. Just keep looking forward.

There are no perfect role models...just some better than others. More to the point, does your son feel you failed him? I very much doubt it.

I'm thinking of how I am torn right now between trying to remain hopeful in the face of poor odds, and not getting my hopes up too high because of how much the fall will hurt.

I'm okay, but I have to accept that all those years when he was little and I was running around snorting Columbia had a negative impact on him. I have dealt with these issues and 17 years of no cocaine speaks volumes, because trust me it's not hard to find. I did fail him then, denying that would help no one. I can't change the past, I have done my best to make it up to him (even my exwife says I'm a good father now) and I wont stop.

In case others haven't figured it out yet, things didn't work out with the Marines and he's now couch surfing in upstate New York. I'm not really down om myself, I am evidence that you can turn the ship around. But I do have to take some of the blame, but I'm cool
