I've been working on a drum sampler for a little while. Some of the planned features so far are..

- 16 drum pads.
- File browser with drag and drop sample loading.
- Loop import.
For each drum pad
- amp and pitch envelopes.
- an EQ.
- saturation.
- bit depth reduction.
- able to load multiple samples, for velocity switching and random sample playback.

If your interested in seeing another drum sampler released, what features would you like to see? What features would you consider essential?

Yes, the world needs another drum sampler VST. And drum synth. Definitely.

As for drum sampler features: low on cpu (with high quality resampling) and memory, disk streaming, good, easy to understand GUI, MIDI learn.

how about a synth/sampler.. each pad has a sample and a synth section where you can blend the sounds then go through the filters etc you had planned?

Kiddin me? Until RMIV adds the features I've been requesting for like 10 years, then yes we need one that has what I want!
And I want synth sampling feature, where I can sample, internally, the sound we've created, and layer it upon another synth sound, or sample.
There you go.

And non SE design?

Well, personally, *I* would need another drum sampler, yes.
But, I'm afraid the things I want are tough to realize.
For me 16 pads would in no way be enough because I often slap the individual slices of a recycled loop onto the individual keys, and those easily exceed 16. Heck, sometimes even the maximum amount of 127 MIDI notes isn't enough for me.
Which would bring me to the next point: What I'd like to see is some decent slicing built straight into whatever drum sampler. So far there's none, the closest I can get is using Kontakt 2 along with Battery 3. Quite a workaround.

Ok, of course I could also do with an extremely lightweight drum sampler, especially for OSX. Right now, the only thing I have is Battery, which doesn't qualify as a lightweight sampler at all.

yeah,there's always room for more.
so, up to 130 pads(with sleep mode so you can go right down to only 4).
beat recognition+slicer.
sample preview.
filters+rez.
shuffle.
+8bit import too.
oh,with an incredibly low cpu. HiHi

A Guru like system with sensible GUI / File system, more pads and plenty of pre set song grooves would suit me. Ideally with Beatbox type operation and not just acoustic like so many Smile

Another drum sampler. Something that has dynamic panning controls at least which can be automated per pad, as well as anything else such as pitch, or reverse trigger.

-Need a step sequencer
-Compressor
-be able to export or better drag and drop from your program to and midi track
-and a roll function like the mpc or a button that you can press like shift or Control on you keyboard then when you touch your midi controller it will roll
-be able to be press one but and set up the midi controller and the program
-from 8 bit to 24 -192
- a nice interface with real buttons
-a record function in stand a lone and vsti
- host time sync
- vsti, DXI, Rtas, AU (DXI)
- sample preview
and a rearranger (if you made a beat you can twist a knob and it will rearrange your beat)
- expansion kits later on for upgrades sounds
- internal sample editor (oh my god) so you will not have to fix your beat in sound forge or wavelab or if you cant do that then it need something in the options that says sample editor and you pick the exe file then you can export it and reimport it

See the problem with the 2 top drums machines are: Battery does not have a step sequencer (but it has every sound format) and guru need more sound formats (mp3, kni, ect) but it has a step sequencer

of cours, i would like a sampler with the opton of synthesis but as long as it is good i think there is always room for a good plug-in but i would try to add things other poeple haven't be experimental with it or even make different versions like a complex one and an easy one sounds like it would be good more pads maybe but if its drums i dont think it needs more than 32 it would be nice for more but cpu would come into play right?

Well it's good to see what sort of things people are thinking. I like drum synths too, but i doubt version 1 will have any synthesis features. I'm just focusing on the sampling side of things atm.

Sascha, what do you use those finely sliced loops for? Are they used pretty much as is, or do you then edit each slice individually?

jshonuffgmail, a compressor for each pad? or just the one for each output?

An internal sample editor would be good.

Sample preview is a must and will be there!

+8bit import

- would a bit depth knob for each pad be enough?

How I imagine loop import working,
- Find a loop in the browser.
- Drag and drop on Loop Import button.
- It displays the waveform and chops it automatically into a user definable number of slices, either at fixed points, or using a beat detection algorithm. Slice points can then be adjusted manually.
- Sends the slices to the drum pads.
- Afterwards, the loop slicing screen can be opened at any time to adjust slice points.

I'd like to see one with a very comprehensive set of drums, like various pitches of toms, bass drums, various snares, and of course a collection of various cymbals and hi-hats, to cover the varying styles such as rock or jazz.

Knew one that had a great kit he used at a rock performance that was more aimed at jazz performance, but it was very effective.

Different microphone setups should be included in the sampler so you could set up the mic setup on any rig.

Include specialty drums like congas, bongos, etc., and include a variety of cowbells at different pitches. Heard a report on NPR about a music store down by the Port Authority place that had quite a variety.

Also the kits with natural and synthetic heads so one could use all the main drums from either, or mix them.

I think this already exists in some form, but there could be something that would have all the possibilities for rock, jazz, R&B, house, etc., in it.

The synthesis could be useful for creating effects, so definitely the synthesis portion should be in there.
