Some users have some difficulties installing mGUI, as from v1.5.5 the installation procedure has been streamlined.
How to install:
  1. download and install mgui.exe, remember/write down the exact folder location where you install: this could be e.g. C:\VstPlugins\Asseca\
-- NOTE: this MUST be in a Plugins root-folder which your host can access to search for plugins !!
  2. download and install mgui-pack1.exe to exactly the same folder location as in step 1
  3. download and install for example ariesverb-as.exe to exactly the same folder location as in step 1
  4. run mGUIman, this is located in the folder e.g. C:\VstPlugins\Asseca\asData\
  5. click on Update ALL DLLs (only needed when running mGUIman the 1st time, or after an update of mGUI)
  6. the DLLs (plugins) are now placed in e.g. C:\VstPlugins\Asseca\
  7. you can now load these plugins in your host ... if you use energyXT, you can drag a DLL from Windows Explorer on energyXT to load
  8. the example AriesVerb images are located in the folder e.g. C:\VstPlugins\Asseca\asData\skins\sk-AriesVerb\
If you still have problems try to locate at which step number you loose track ... Wink

How to uninstall:
  1. run mGUIman
  2. click on menu File
  3. click on menu-item Uninstall mGUI...
  4. exit mGUIman
  5. delete the Asseca-folder

OK I got AriesVerb working. Now I had tried to get the MidiXbar I saw mentionned in an energyXT thread a few days ago about an alternative to the midipatcher in eXT2, butI don't get how to install it...

Or is it incompatible with v1.5.5 ?

MidiXbar still need to be updated to v1.5.x

You could try out Midi Mixer, which already allows some of the MidiXbar features ...

Nice! I lost mgui at version 1.37 or so, I guess, and find it made easy so even I don't make any mistake now...

Hi Asseca. I'm trying to use the Guitar Suite skins but am having problems getting them to work.

Do I need the original guitar suite dlls or are they included in the guitar suite exe. on your site? If I do what do I need to do with these? After I've run Mguiman do I need to keep this program installed on my computer?
I tried following your instructions above and got - "A Serious Problem Has Occured" error.

What am I doing wrong? Please could you assist with this problem.

Thanks

Yes, you need the original Guitar Suite DLLs
The mGUI plugins will look for these in "VstPlugins-folder\FX\GuitarSuite\"

It is strongly advised to keep the mGUIman.exe in its original folder ... (i.e. in "VstPlugins-folder\Asseca\asData\)

Thanks for the reply Asseca. Why does the Guitar suite dlls. have to been in a folder labeled FX? I have my dlls of guitar suite in a folder called guitar plugins. Will this be a problem?

The ini-files of the mGUI-wrappers then need to be changed, there are 2 ways of doing this: (assuming you have v1.5.9 installed)
  1. run mGUIman, in the "GuitarSuite"-folder, select each plugin and click on the Edit Ini button, then change e.g. DS1_GUI VST-1=...\FX\GuitarSuite\Boss DS-1.dll into VST-1=...\guitar plugins\Boss DS-1.dll
  2. install VstHost and then run mGUIman, then select MainMenu > File > Preferences > set "VST Host .EXE File Path", now in the "GuitarSuite"-folder, select each plugin and click on Run, mGUIman will ask for the location of the GuitarSuite plugin and load the plugin in VstHost ...

Thanks again for the reply. Not sure if I understand what you mean? Could you try and explain this.

Thanks

Not sure if I understand what you mean? Could you try and explain this.

  1. Run mGUIman
  2. select the GuitarSuite folder (circled red)

  3. select DS1_GUI
  4. click on the [Edit Ini] button
  5. Windows NotePad will now open showing the file DS1_GUI.ini

  6. find the text-line VST-1=...\FX\GuitarSuite\Boss DS-1.dll (i.e. 20th line)
  7. change this text-line to read VST-1=...\guitar plugins\Boss DS-1.dll (the purple text is the folder where you have placed the original GUI-less GuitarSuite plugins)
  8. click on NotePad's File menu and then click on Save
  9. close Windows NotePad
  10. DS1_GUI.dll should now load in your host...
  11. ... repeat steps 3 to 10 for the other plugins

I hope this explanation helps ...

Thanks I'll try this. I have my plugins set up like this:-

Program Files - Steinberg - VST Plugins - Bonus VST FX - Guitar Plugins - Guitar Plugins - Guitar Suite

Do I need to type all of this in the purple space?

Assuming you have installed the mGUI files in:

Program Files - Steinberg - VST Plugins - Asseca

you need to type

Bonus VST FX\Guitar Plugins\Guitar Plugins\Guitar Suite

in the purple space

Sorry about this. I've just tried that and it's still not working. I can't see DS1_GUI in Cubase. I tried loading the original Boss DS-1 and it's still GUI-less.

Check if the DS1-GUI.dll is in the folder:
Program Files - Steinberg - VST Plugins - Asseca

If not then run mGUIman and click on Update ALL DLLs
