Hi Y'all
I'm working on a new synth that at the moment is destined to be a standalone (don't panic as SSP I+ II are still very much active as you will see soon). I would like some opinions here: Would you rather have a synth that used Soundfonts or Waves? WAVES: Advantages: use whatever sounds you have at hand, easily create your own sounds, more versatile Disadvantages: transposition problems or higher CPUsage from more zones. SOUNDFONTS: Advantages: lots of sounds all in the one tin, as many zones as you need, lots of existing Fonts. Disadvantages: seem to play wrong, only uses 1st layer of Font, pre-made Fonts tend to not suit a real synth. Before I go tooo far I'd rater know what you will really use as this synth will not be a ROMpler type thing but typically Benedict. |

I would prefer .sf2, but then I read stuff like "...seem to play wrong, only uses 1st layer of Font, pre-made Fonts tend to not suit a real synth" and I gotta wonder if .wav wouldn't be better for whatever it is you have in mind. At least until SE can better handle .sf2 or whatever the problem is.
Have you been able to check out any of zvon's soundfonts? Some were designed specifically for the Algo/HG stuff but work very well in other synths. What makes them so unique, imho, is that some of them are intended for use in synths/re-synthesis rather than a typical soundfont player application. |

I don't know how you voted as there isn't a poll I am staying with Fonts for now and will look at zvon's soundfonts |

Hi Bobsled, Thanks for the referral. Benedict wrote: Zvon doesn't seem to be at home any more
What do you mean exactly by this? Is it that you have trouble accessing my site? |

Hi Zvon
For some reason your site always give me a TCP Error like someone's server is off. |

I remember a few years ago that some people could not get to the Audiomulch site while others could. I don't know if it could help but, if you have not already, you could try with a different browser. I am posting below a direct download link to one of the demo, let me know if you have more success with it: http://www.lesproductionszvon.com/download/Zvon_JR_constel_d emo.rar You can PM or email me so that we can find a way to let you try the soundfonts. |

Until I have a good way of making my own Soundfonts (i.e., a free way), I'd still stick with WAVES, though I'm not really happy about either option. Ideally I'd want to be able to use multi-samples without the hassle of creating soundfonts (or asking others to create them for me). For example, the RS-202 string synth samples I've published were made into a soundfont for me, but they were put in the second or third layer I think, so they wouldn't work here. |
