Contest is over

The Zebra Oldskool Soundset is now available from www.zebrasynth.com

Deadline for the Zebra Oldskool competition is here and this is the voting rules:

Each participant has 1 vote, you must place that vote on one person from the following list of people by making a reply to this thread saying this:

My vote goes to X (the participant you vote for)

You may not vote on yourself, the person with most votes wins this part of the competition. The other two parts with me and Urs will follow shortly after you guys have voted. Votes should be made before Monday May 12 at 00.01 CET.

Good luck all

/Michael

INITIAL POST STARTS HERE:

What would happen if i made a demo soundset of Zebra Oldskool available ?

Well in any case i take my chances and present to you the:

Zebra Oldskool Soundset DEMO

but there's a catch.... Wink

This DEMO is to be used for a little competition which i have in mind, which in short is about the following:

    a) You grab a copy of the Zebra Oldskool Soundset DEMO

    b) You make some noise, music or something using ONLY this DEMO soundset and NO External FX processing but a limiter.

    c) You submit your work in this thread by posting a link to a MP3 file of your creation. Yes, you may provide as many creations as you like.
    d) 3 participants will win a copy of the full soundset.

    e) I pick a winner, Urs pick one and participants votes for one.

    f) Winners will recieve their price on the release of the soundset.

    g) Winners will be announced during Sunday May 11.

    h) Deadline for submitting your creation is Sunday May 11 at 00.01 Central Europe Time (CET)

Your absolutely free to come up with just about anything, even a single beep could do it as long as its kinda original in some way.

So, you got 14 days to come up with something.

You may alter the patches slightly, example the included hihat comes with a swing beat, you may change that into a 4-4 beat if you like. Dont forget to use the XY controls which also can be handy when shaping sounds.

What ever you do must sound exactly the same on another persons system if you provided him the midi file and notes about the slightly altered patches.

Intern EQ OK
Disable ARP or change tempo on ARP OK
Attack and Release on AMP module OK
IF a patch comes with FX you may adjust delay and reverb.
IF a patch comes with no FX you may not add any type of FX.

About the DEMO soundset:

It is made of 44 patches, each representing a category within the Zebra Oldskool Soundset. The full soundset is 512 patches.

About the FULL soundset:

Directory structure have been reworked since we are now dealing with 512 patches. There will be a special upgrade price for Oldskool 1+2 users. There will be an introductional price for the full set for a limited time.

Large picture of the total soundset:

Unpack the file and place it within your Zebra Presets folder.

Have fun and a nice weekend Smile

Ahhh i think i see what your getting at, well i cheated a bit by turning down attack and release on the strings to get the typical short string hits.

Besides that i used the EQ on the XY for the piano and turned the volume up on kick and hihat and gave the limiter a good boost. All other stuff i didnt touch.

HiHi

Subz

Sure, i dont have XT2 thou, should i get it ? Can you export/import midi files from it ?

About the Pad-String, i realize that not many sounds are urban like because most of them have long release and reverb. So yes, lets cheat with the Pad-String Wink Its my own fault i gave the XY other controls than attack and release on that patch.

Know what, i'm going to export my track to midi and put it up here so people can try it out for themself. I think it should be enought if i just name each track with the proper patch name, then midi should do the rest.

by 'only' using those sounds you really mean... not even 3rd party percussion?

Yup i really mean not even 3rd party whatever, that would spoil the fun and is most fair for all in my humble opinion.

Kinda like sitting in front of a big fat juicy steak and only having a fork to use and no knife. How are you going to eat that steak with a fork only, thats the fun part. Wink

If you want to think percussion with the patches you must think out of the normal approach. Play some of the Drum-XXX patches at extreme keys for percussion effects. I think Drum-Other is a chromatic conga, try playing it at low keys and at very high key for special effects.

Same here Smile

Armed with a fork i started something else:

http://www.synthtronic.com/demos/Z2_Oldskool_Boing .mp3

Didnt know what to call it...so

I changed the Bas-Seq to 4/4 tempo and used the XY controls, and the Pad-Strings had its relase and attack down Wink
