I don't want to stir up anything, but it appears that we've heard nothing from anyone at Mackie in a long time about Tracktion's future. I, for one, don't have any problems with 3.0.4.8 and have been using it successfully since it came out, but I do wonder if there'll ever be a 4.0, or even a 3.1. I'd hate to see Tracktion abandoned, but I'm starting to wonder if Mackie intends to continue developing it or if this is all there is. Let the speculation begin! |

Yeah, I'm in!!!
I love T3. I have no big issues with 3.0.4.8. I'd like collection clips to be finished: there is a couple of bugs there for me (one causes a poof crash), I'd like the separate out / master filter "feature" / bug taken out. But I definitely am getting an abandonware feeling from the silence, which if correct is a bit wrong as they are still selling it for money. Now and then I go and try Reaper or Samplitude wondering if I should get up to speed on another host. But for me at least they just don't compare for ease of use. Tracktion works the way my brain does when it comes to audio on a computer. It took me years to make the leap from hard disk recorders, as soon as I saw tracktion I knew that a great user interface had arrived. Loud technologies should get Jules back as an overpaid consultant to get this ship back on track, that's my vote. if. |

To my knowledge, last post from BenO is dated from mid june.
I'll wait until september (let the summer go by I've been with T for 5 years, always been a supporter and happy user but I can't recommend it anymore. If it still costed 80$, I would though. But now it's getting very expensive regarding performance and stability (it's like a lotery : you can't say to a friend "buy this host, it MIGHT be great depending on your computer and plugs" ...) I don't have major crash/bugs on my DAW with T3 but poor performance and other anoying problems (like the need to restart the ASIO device frequently, first note drop, complex PDC turn around) are not worth a long silent wait anymore to me. I've already bought and worked with Reaper. It's not great, UI-wise, and I miss T. workflow but it's fast and reliable so far. |

I've been using it for 4 years now meself, and felt no need to switch. The only problem I've encountered is the GUI bug with Wavearts plugins (which I haven't bought because they don't work in T3), which disappoints me since their plugs sound very, very good to my ear. And the problem does seem to be with T3. I generally use very few plugins or VST instruments (with the exception of BFD2, which I rely on heavily) and my tunes usually have about 8-15 tracks or so, all audio except for drums. No crashes, no real problems at all so far, but it concerns me that T3 seems to be unsupported, except for this forum and its members. Good software needs constant development to remain useful. I do hope they've just taken a summer sabbatical... |

Yeah, I tried T3 demo on my Mac (after having used T1 and T2 successfully on my PC for many years) and I can't use it: project files disappearing, random poof crashes... I've been playing with the Live demo and will prolly buy it, but I would also updgrade to T3 if it could be made stable for the Mac. |

If the mac version was stable, I'd be there instantly.
Hell, if it had the feature set of Tracktion 1, and was stable on mac... I'd buy 3 copies (literally). |

either the silence means there working on something big.. maybe the audio rewite? since that supposedly is complicated and takes a while that could be whats cracking..
or its completely abandoned. fricken a tho beno..at least a yea, were working on it would be good. i mean its only fair for those who invested so much time learning a tool, let us know so we can spend time learning another tool if need be.. where the beta testers at? are you testing anything? |

I love T1 and I went for T3 only because of: support automation of VST parameters via external MIDI controller (which btw. does not work in expected way, see "Outstanding bugs" topic for more information), the flexibility of use of MIDI devices (virtual ports, multiple INs per track) and aftertouch support. Other new features aren't so important to me. This means that I would be happy if Mackie didn't touch engine (stability), GUI (slowing down/delays) and editor (sticky cursor, no support for middle mouse button anymore). These things should be developed as well of course, to keep Tracktion fresh and compatible with new technologies, but it is better not to touch things than making them worser. My wish is the project returned to the original author (though he seems to be very busy according to the message on the Raw Material homesite). I actually had an idea to contact Julian for the special release of T1 supporting VST parameters automation using ext. controllers (the absolutely no 1 feature for me), but now I don't seem optimistic. |

The GUI is JUCE, which Jule's still develops, so any slowdowns etc that result from that are predominantly his fault rather than Mackie's guys. The rest I mostly agree with, but stable dual-core/multi-core support are critical things. |

ive been using tracktion since i switched from BUZZ (the old tracker) and have dabbled with other daw software cubase, sonar, samplitude, and i hate them all compared to tracktion, im still using t2 because the demo of t3 still runs slow as balls compared to t2, i would love to become a user of t3 and im happy to wait until its finished properly and cant wait but if we are going to be abandoned its gonna be really hard to find a replacement thats pleasant to work with |

Don't want to be the exception but I'm a happy user of T3 latest version. I have no problem with it. The minority of disappointed peoples tends to sound louder than the majority of happy ones but I can understand it ! That's sad to say but maybe we shouldn't be so hard to please. Tracktion is definitely a challenger in the sequencers race. I never met someone who know it amongst people around me, really. It probably gives me the "alternative" touch I'm really an early user of Tracktion and I decided to buy it instead of Cubase or Logic (I'm a former Logic user) just because it looked revolutionnary to me. I'm also a former "trackerist" like Buzz or Fasttracker2 (even Protracker on Amiga for those of you who know!) and the idea of having everything on the same window with accurate and direct functions has just boosted my creativity and my intention to do more music. It was faster and easier. Cubase and Logic are a bit like Internet. You connect to search something and you end up forgetting what you were searching for. Without an advanced knowledge of those tools, your ideas can vanish. The learning curve in Tracktion is the faster ever. So being a Tracktion problably means that you have to adapt to its defects. Maybe because I'm a PC user I don't have any problems, really. It's probably why my next computer (in September, hasn't been changed in 4 years) will be a PC instead of a Mac. I was thinking about a Mac, but I just want to continue to make music flawlessly AND with Tracktion. |

I've said it before, but the latest version of T3 is rock solid on Vista SP1 for me. The one bug i've encountered is the one where multiple outputs are enabled in the setting-page AND effects in the master-section are enabled cause stuttering. |

Melodyman, I agree with you. Do you also have the following though? - left boundary of collection clip can't be dragged left (earlier) once it's been dragged right (later) - cut and past of a collection clip can cause a poof crash if. |
