===================================
NOTE: Poise 1.x is feature complete. This means I will not be adding any more significant features to Poise. I will consider making small work-flow related changes. (All bugs will continue to be fixed as they appear.) I do think Poise would benefit from a few more features. However nothing major will happen until version 2 (but lots of other things need to be done before work on version 2 starts). Please continuing leaving feature requests. It's good to see what is working and not working. I'll keep suggestions here in mind when/if work on Poise 2 does start. Shannon =================================== ----Feature Requests---- 1>

Part of the attraction of Poise is its super fast workflow. Refining the workflow further would impress new users when I tell 'em to check out Poise! 4>

Quote: Would it be possible to create a new text colour class in the config file that separates the 'LabelTextColor' from the text that displays the current value of whichever control is under mouse focus? Yes. I'll take a look tomorrow.
Quote: Is it possible to get rid of the 'bang' message that pops up when one double-clicks to reset a parameter to its default state?
Yes. I didn't realise that found it's way into a release. I can probably add 'Ctrl + click' to reset behaviour. Quote: Have you considered setting the defaults to 'on' rather than 'off' Examples include the hotkeys and the 'one click triggers pad' options. Likewise, setting pads to 'Layer Tight' to begin with would speed up the workflow slightly. I'm sure that if people only want one sample to play they'd only drop one sample in the cell?
Hmm, considering now... Quote: Part of the attraction of Poise is its super fast workflow. Refining the workflow further would impress new users when I tell 'em to check out Poise!
I'm open to suggestions here. Thanks for your feedback Patrick, [edited to finish writing post] |

nice suggestions.
anyway drag and drop from arrange window in reaper (or other hosts) could be implemented? and +1 on more filter types i actually like the default theme but use Limeflavors Poise is horribly under rated, btw. or just under peoples radar. |

That's partially up to the host. Poise accepts files dragged from windows explorer, so any host that allows files to be dragged from it and dropped on the desktop could work with Poise. I've not done a lot of testing here so I've no idea what hosts support this. I haven't used Reaper v3, but in v2.5 files can be dragged from an audio track and dropped on Poise with Ctrl+Alt held. (Individual samples can also be dragged from Poise and dropped on an audio track using Ctrl+Alt also.) [edit] Drag+drop to Poise works with Reaper v3. (Reaper 3 looks good!) [/edit] |

That drag and drop thing sounds great! I've got some more feature requests to keep ya busy ------------------------------------------------------ 1> It would be nice to be able to change the colour of the solo and mute lines that surround the drum pads when either of them are activated. 2> Would it be possible to give the sample browser LCD text & scrollbar their own class? That way one could style them differently to the actual drum sampler section. With the aLive skin, I was initailly going to copy Abletons sample browser colours for Poises own sample browser. 3> Similar to the amp/pitch env state changes triggering an image swap or colour change, it would be really useful to be able to replace the MainPanel image when one of the 'MiniPanelButtons are activated. I ran into a problem whilst creating the MPC2500 skin after I had switched off the label text. My aim was to re-align the Amp and Pitch env labels with extra styling. When I clicked on the other minipanelbutton tabs, I realised that the controls had no labels and the background from the 'env' section was still visible. Whilst not critical, again it would allow for more scope in skinning! 4> The facility to change the opacity of the waveform graphic, the amp env LCD shading and the pitch env line would be cool. 5> Heck, the ability to realign all the elements with xml would also be cool while we're at it! 6> A right-click menu function allowing env settings to be copied and pasted could be useful. 7> When one clicks on 'invert phase', it would be fun for the waveform LCD graphic to turn upside-down. ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks again for sorting the extra text colour class and sample browser MouseOver element. I'll try and see if I can suss them later. Do I need to redownload Poise for them to work? Pat |

good to see this new discussion regarding this extremely efficient software. ---- electronic instrumentalism, MIDI instrument design, and words. |

Ez Shannon
I just got back from my trip and thought of some more features for Poise haha. Many thanks for the last update btw, I'll be sure to implement them in my upcoming skins! ------------------------------------------ 1> A loop option would be invaluable for triggering loops using poise as a trigger pad instead of a drum machine (see below for more thoughts on this). Loop modes to include would be something like 'forwards', 'backwards' and 'bounce' (forwards then backwards) 2> Running on the theme, tempo synching the loops would be useful. 3> Time stretching samples without changing the pitch and pitch shifting samples without changing the playback rate would be amazing! (Maybe elastique2 could be used for this?) ------------------------------------------ I would love to use Poise as a DJ tool by chopping up each song into segments. I could then do live 'remixes' on the fly. I got used to this style of DJing when I owned a set of Denon CD decks with built in cue point buttons. Dropping a phat bassline at the press of a button would be mint, especially if combined with a MPC style midi drum pad. ------------------------------------------ Not a feature request per se, but have you thought about developing a sampler using Poises design ethos? It seems you could reuse a healthy amount of code from Poise regarding sample playback, envelopes, pitch shifting and the waveform window. |

Interesting suggestions, but at this point the loop playback functions are probably a bit too far outside the scope of what Poise has been designed for.

Isn't this what Live has been built for? (I've not used Live by the way)

I've thought about this and have made a tentative start on it, but it's still a long way from anything useful. |

Ez bru, long time no email... Just a quick question/FR: Does Poise report note names to hosts? If not, that would be useful! Here is a pic of Reapers midi editor with note names shown.
Thanks! Pat |

Heya Shannon
A quick one for the volume controls. The ability to boost the volume of a sample or pad using the volume controls would be useful, not just the ability to attenuate. My guess is that the current setup has something to do with internal clipping control? Pat |
