Does anyone know if Ableton Live 8 has a 64bit version or not? I heard it has 64 bit mixing but is there an actual 64bit installer of the DAW?

64-bit versions of Vista may work to an extent, but Ableton does not currently support these versions.

As of Live 6.0.9, the standard Windows installer will install Live on either Windows XP or Windows Vista.
I read that as there is no special x64 version.

When people refer to '64 bit' for application builds and OSes, they basically mean the memory pointer size the app has been built for. i.e. 32-bit means the program can address 4gb max (OS willing) and 64-bit can address the known universe Smile

This is separate from any other internal use of calculation width or precision. i.e. a 32bit OS app can quite happily calculate internal values in 64-bit (or 128, 256 or 512 if it wants).

flametop, that's a nice assessment but, frankly, I already knew that. I know 64 bit can address quite a bit more RAM, which is why I was wondering if there was a 64Bit installer for Live 8. Do you know if i comes with a 64bit installer? BTW Thanks to the person with the Vista FAQ link I'm on my way to read it, it may answer my q's. But it's an old FAQ that is discussing Live 6. They are now onto Live 8. I guess I may have to find out the hard (and pricey) way....

It isnt 64 bit. People are getting all upset about it :

The bottom line "Official Vista64 and 8Gig memory support are not yet done, but will surely come soon." BUT - It really dosnt matter as there are so few 64 bit VSTs around at the moment. If you do get Live 8 64 bit - You can load some 32 bit vsts with various adaptors but its a bit hit and miss.

Many hosts are not yet releasing full 64-bit versions, since some hardware drivers and many/most VST's are still 32-bit anyways.
Some may have LAA's for accessing above 4G RAM.
It's a matter of timing, and the overall market is still slightly premature IMO.
It would be nice if Ableton at least released a LAA version.
