But I need to know: wtf is making the rhythmic chords? The chords' notes are sort of "mashed" together ina way that reminds me of something I use sometimes but I can't put my finger on it.

And what on earth is making the drums wet and flabby like the heads are loose? I absolutely love that and want to steal it!

Whoa I just listened to the original and I can't decide which I like more.

The soundstaging on the original is much more interesting though there's some pan field imbalance (which no one but someone like me would ever, ever notice), but the mix on the newer version is better. There's not enough bass for the dubiness of the original for my tastes.

Aside from that I find the sound design decisions aesthetically hard to pick between as I like both.

If I were remixing it I'd warmify the original and use the two parts as A/B/A/B or something like that.

It amazes me every time I hear something you've made that it's got "your sound" slapped all over it - even though, aside from some rhythmic quirks that don't count as part of what I mean - I simply can't put my finger on anything specific that always alerts my ear to the fact that I'm hearing "the liqih sound"

It's spacious, but then so is anything by ew or DSP... I don't know, but I like it.

the trick is to tune the LP12 resonance and the Flanger to the right harmonics


drums : snare and kick samples >>> EQ >>> Grain Delay

the Ableton Grain Delay in this case with Pitch traspose -2.25 and some Rand Pitch, also 95% feedback, 95% wet.

Well I must say that I agree with you: this remix sounds better but the original was more "original",
maybe I'd just copy&merge some parts from the original in this one and make one single longer track.

About the "your sound" issue, I think for anyone it counts the way Reverb, and EQ are used to shape the mix space,
for me it counts a lot, since I'm using more echoes in my tracks today. <wink>

I basically never use eq the way anyone else does, though I've probably read more about it than is at all reasonable given that assertion.

I do tend to shelve under 60Hz unless there's something going on, or rather randomly jerk out freqs on troublesome resonances. But given the sheer density of the majority of what I make and the fact that I use Logitech 2.1 speakers that someone gave me when I mix + check stuff in my Sennheiser phones I really can't be arsed to master stuff properly. There's not enough definition in runagat-land here. Which is too bad as I have wicked ears.

I can hear what you're saying about "your sound" but there's also a commonality running through your synth sound design that I can't quite describe. Well, just look at your acilead or acidome presets compared to mine. All of yours just scream "liqih" - which is by no means true of everyone who codes their VSTs and then makes patches. novaflash comes to mind, but most of ya'll aren't so good at it. I wrote a longish essay on why that is, and certainly it's completely understandable. Totally different skillset.

There's something bouncily and laudably plasticene, almost Nintendo-esque but without the implication of 8-bit... kind of sunny and bouncy in the timbres.

I don't even know why I bring it up, but I enjoy it. I'd copy it sometime if I could, it's definitely one of those things sounds I've named in my mental palette, like my old guitar players had a couple "feels" that I had names for like "Tumult of Heck" and "Jacobs Ladder" - in my mind there's this disctinct "liqih bounce"
