OK, here's the new patch contest and hopefully this one should be easy enough for anyone to have a go.

The task is simply to make any patch using only one module in the Voice Grid and one module in the Effects Grid*.

And that's it. The patches don't have to be of any specific type, so leads, basses, FX, pads anything is permissible.

---

The deadline for submissions will be Sunday August 9th (midnight GMT) - not decided how to collect submissions, but it will most likely be a collaborative online folder of some kind (looking at a couple of possibilities), but an announcement will be made here shortly.

General rules as per the last comp - you may, if you choose, submit two patches. Voting will be public and will run for one week.

The author of the best patch gets a copy of the amazing Bazille! (Or, if the author already has Bazille it goes to the highest ranking patch who's author didn't take part in the first contest)

And Michael Kastrup has offered two versions of one patch, 'Balinese Dancer', for the authors of the top three entries. The first patch is in the same one module, one effect format as per the contest, the second adds another instrument and extra effects. As you'd expect from Michael, both are great patches!

:)

*Voice Grid = the four columns directly below the preset name, Effects Grid = the three columns in the bottom panel.

THIS TASK HAS BEEN REVISED TWICE, SO PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU'RE WORKING TO THE LATEST (AND LAST!) REVISION (It was Howard's fault!)

Hey hakey :tu: for the patch contests!

Edit: IGNORE this post - hakey hath spoken. Left in for context purposes only.

About the new one. I think that's MUCH too much - IMHO it should be just
one module in each grid...

1) You can do a LOT with one oscillator (SFX?) / comb or whatever
2) Of course they can use all MSEGs, LFOs etc, which don't show in the grid

Your thoughts?

OK ***Temporary competition suspension*** whilst we think about this.

It's funny you should say that - my initial idea was two modules per grid.

The fairly obvious idea being to get people to think more about efficient use and explore the capabilities of the modules. And also to stop people doing what I often do, just adding module after module so ending up with these Byzantine patches.

I did also consider just one module per grid too, but I was worried that that might prove too difficult a task, or frighten some away (I'm hoping we might tempt some new folks in with this 'simpler' competition). And going through the (your) factory presets there's loads of two mod per grid patches that are interesting, useful and varied - the OSC into COMB variation seems to be a particularly rich seem, in fact, it was this in particular that I was thinking about.

And two modules in the effects grid seems sensible without being overly generous - it allows for a sound shaping module plus reverb or delay.

But then I chickened out, worried that even two modules might prove too daunting, so went for three.

Rethinking it I like the two per grid option more. I could be persuaded about one per grid.

Or, how about 2 or 3 modules in total ie shared between both grids?

Three modules in total sounds good to me!

2 or three works with me,

but i do think we should do a 1 mod comp at some point definitely!!

Howard is right 3 is a hell of a lot of power!

but as this is early days the less specialist approach may bring in more contestants :)

Sad i missed the last one :( i don't intend to let that happen again this time!

not that i would have had a chance at beating any of the contenders from the last comp :o

Boy was voting hard!

So unlimited LFO's and Env's since they don't show up in the grid? :hihi: This contest is a good idea, should yield some useful low cpu patches. :tu:

Okay, glad I'm reading this now.... I originally thought it was a maximum of 3 modules per each grid.

Well, I'm of course up for it and would also welcome a future contest that only allows 1 module in the voice grid (but unlimited LFO's and Envelopes), and maybe 1 module in the FX grid.

Howard, is my terminology correct? :hihi: I'm in process of learning here. :)

Oh and Arp or no? :hihi:

It was, but we decided that it would be more fun if it was more restrictive

(hence "REVISED" in the thread title)

Yep, everything else is allowed.
