Krakatau, those sounds are pretty amazing. Not sure I'm sorting out what's Alch and what's UB in the first one -- is the opening "A A C D" riff coming from Alch? ---- ![]() |

Meanwhile, granular madness continues here at PaulSC labs...
A possibly better way to get sparse grain streams is to make new granular window definitions padded with zeros, so the gap is built into each grain. Here's an audio example (based on a factory sample of someone chewing styrofoam!). Going for an experimental "electroacoustic" sound here, like you might hear in the music of Curtis Roads or Denis Smalley. DEADMAU5 BASSLINE And here are a couple of the "gapped" granular window files I've created. (To use them, just put them in Alchemy > Libraries > Window, and you'll find them the next time you load Alchemy.) GAPPED WINDOW DEFS ---- ![]() |

Quote: 1. Grid-based pitch shifting is achieved by modulating the source coarse-tune parameter with a fast random glide LFO shaped by a modmap. Since alchemy's granular engine responds to pitch modulations by generating each individual grain at a fixed pitch value, the grid effect is easily achieved. Note that pitch fluctuations in the source material are still superimposed on the grid pitches; no easy way to eliminate this. See Source C in the supplied preset, heard in the middle of the audio example.

Might be an idea for us to include one of these 'sparse' windows in an an update to the factory library, seeing as it does open up these new options. Hopefully someone will pick up the task of coordinating user presets etc for Alchemy as has been done for Zebra, as it is a shame that hundreds of presets are lying around on hard drives unused. Perhaps the other Alchemy SD's would like to post their rejected presets too and share the wealth. http://rapidshare.com/files/248914542/JH_Alchemy_Rejects.zip |

Just spotted that Simon Stockhausen has uploaded some Alchemy presets to the KvR database. I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but thought I'd give a heads up here in case anyone is interested and has missed them:

I have been experimenting a little with "additive wavetable". This is a first very simple preset you can download and try out: k1_wavetable.zip
If all goes well it will go through the wave sequence automatically as default. Beware that it's a fast ugly hack so there are some logic flaws. You can choose among the waves manually but ONLY if AutoSeq(control 2) is set to zero. Either rotate the Wave(control 1) knob or use your mod wheel to manually select a waveform. What I'm trying here is a way to make "hard" transitions between the waveforms. I could ofc have both hard and soft and let the user select but this is just a test. If I only could learn Alladin I think I could do this in a much cleaner and easier way but we'll see. Please try the preset and tell me if it works |

Yep, that seems to work as described, mod wheel is stepping through the waves, some really nice tones coming out of the speakers ... great! Peace, Andy. |

Peace, Andy. Excellent, time for the next step then. I see that PaulSC has done something similar. It's good to see that the additive part gets some attention now |

Hello, I just went to check for updates and stuff, and saw this with some of the presets/sounds:
"Download the RAR file to your desktop and run the add-on bank installer." WHY??? What IS this installer??? What will this "installer" do when it can't find the (presumedly) designated "folder" it is looking for, because I don't have ANY "factory" sounds/banks/or presets in my Alchemy content??? Nor could I find any reference to an "add-on bank installer" anywhere on the GUI menu's/tabs/buttons - et al, nor in any "Camel" related folder. It's no big deal really, just inerested in what it is, and why it exists, and is it a requirement for anyone to have to use it, if they write any "sample" content for Alchemy? thanks... ~S~ (p.s. I removed all of the "factory content" so that I could be SURE that the sounds I was making were "mine", not because I didn't like them) |

Hi,
The add-on bank installer should be installed with Alchemy, and is located on the Windows Start Menu under Camel Audio. On OS X, it is located in Applications/Alchemy. I'll explain a little about the preset system, then exactly what the add-on bank installer is doing. If you have any questions, please let us know. To access presets using the title bar in the Alchemy GUI, the .ACP preset files need to be in a specific folder: <install folder>/Alchemy/Presets/<...> The sample files referenced by the (factory) presets are installed to this folder: <install folder>/Alchemy/Samples/<...> We chose to create a standard folder structure to simplify the process of sharing presets and distributing content. The preset and sample folders are common to all Alchemy installations. Users can share presets using factory samples without knowing anything about the location of the sample library on another system. The RAR files used to distribute the presets and samples are organised to reflect this structure, which you will notice if you expand the RAR file yourself. The add-on bank installer reads each RAR file and copies whatever it finds to a location within the Alchemy folder, based on the structure of the RAR file. If the RAR file is organised correctly, the files will be copied to the appropriate location for the preset and samples system to work. The add-on bank installer simplifies the process for the users who are not interested in these kinds of file system details, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to. You can expand the RAR files manually and move the extracted files and folders to the appropriate location. Peace, Andy. |
