Hi all,

It's finally here!

http://www.algomusic.net

I can hardly remember not working on it, so it's hard to say anything objective about it, but one of our betatesters put it this way:

'It definitely sounds like a CZ on steroids. Finally, someone did a proper CZ emulation...'

Yes there is!
Press the 'help' button on the GUI.

Hmmm... I don't think the original CZ envelopes are log.
As far as I know they are linear. Can be wrong of course...
However, the envelopes were custom coded and we had to restrict the mininum attack time to about 1 ms, to prevent clicks.

Well, pressing the "help" button does nothing in my case...?
(I'm on Windows Vista 64bit)

Ok, fooled around with it once more, my first impessions so far...

At first I wasn't impressed with the sound, and also not with the presets,
BUT this is mainly because of the applied effects, which I don't like
(sorry to say, but there not to my taste - they blur to much the sound,
especially the chorus and rotary, maybe a dry/wet knob would be handy ).

BUT, then you turn them off, this synth sounds much better
imho - sounding warm and with it's own character
(but can't tell, if it sounds like the original).

With some tweaking of the envelopes, I could squeeze some interesting
sounds out (though without beeing able to access the help file not really
knowing what I'm doing).

Also one seems to be able to get diffent tone colors with the waveshapers,
which are automatable (+1!)

The "Metal FX" also includes a LP Filter, but sadly the Cutoff and Resonance
aren't automatable. Also I don't see a way, to assign the Modwheel or any another Midi CC to any parameter (is there a default Midi CC table ?).

Hopefully this doesn't come along to negative, 'cos I like the overall
character of this synth, but would like to see some improvements to it
(Midi Learn, more automatable parameters, maybe a global LP Filter,
a Dry/Wet knob for the Chorus, a seperate Manual).

I'm sure you put a lot of work into it, so don't take my critism to much to
heart, it's meant as some friendly suggestions -

after all this said, I myself will grab this synth, because, like I said
before, it has it's own distinct sound, which I like, and that alone is enough
to get this one.

All the best,
losan

A pdf should open... Perhaps you haven't installed acrobat reader?

Thanks for the honest review, no offence taken...
I quess it's all a matter of taste anyway, some like their synths with sugar and milk, some prefer them black:-)
BTW, I didn't bother to automate a lot of parameters because synthedit v1.1 (soon to come, big update) will fix that.

Best regards,

Hi guys,

Just uploaded the new demo.

www.algomusic.net/downloads/CZynthia_demo.zip

Pressing the help button now opens the manual, as it should.
Sorry for the all confusion.

Cheers!

Yep, it's ok now... thanks.
Bought CZynthia today, really like the unique warm sound,
also after another listen, there are some presets I really
like (like RYM Rock for example). Smile
The manual is ok, but I will have to search for an article about
Phase Distortion for a better understanding of the underlying synthesis
method.
For some realtime modification I mapped the Phase Sliders to
two knobs inside NI Kore - the effect is similar to a smooth LP filter with
some patches.
Though I'd like to have a little more realtime control about the sound,
all in all this synth is worth checking out.
(And the price is a steal imo).

Good luck with this one,
Cheers

Silly me, after checking the article, I realized it's from the M51,
which I already own ! (How could I forget...).

It's a nice introduction to this kind of synthesis, thanks for the hint !
