Hello friends,
Please drop your findings here. We might compile this in a better place later, but let's start somewhere Cheers, René |

I would like to clarify one thing: some of the links above correspond to Gigastudio banks, but they are listed here because:
a) They are free. b) Its quality is excellent. c) There're several programs available to convert from .gig to .sf2. d) As René stated, sfz+ will support .gig format in the future. Sahul |

BTW, René, great idea to make this an sticky at the top of the forum, it will make much easier the creation of a big list of free sf2 resources.

Any chance of people recomending some of the better soundfonts from these sites? I tried once before but the thread never got to far. It's just such a pain (especially on dialup) to go through these sites downloading a bunch of stuff, only to find that like 1 in 5 of the SF's you've downloaded are usable. BTW the NS Timpani set is a wonderful one I downloaded already because of this thread. |

I agree with Funkybot. I mean, everyone knows there are tons of free sounds out there. But actually seperating the wheat from the chaff is the challenge. How about everyone just listing one or more soundfonts that are actually usable, + where to dl it?
I'll start. Some may have overlooked this sf2 since this site hosts such a popular drumkit. Give it another look, what a sweet bass! ns_j-bass at http://www.natural-studio.co.uk/ns_jbass.htm |

The idea of a soundfont board came up some months ago:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22263 I set up a phpbb intending to test some ideas (rating etc.), then sort of forgot Just had a look, it's still there: http://www.soundfont.1go.dk/ |

You're completely right, it would make this thread much more useful than simply listing an infinite list of sites. I will start recommending this piano: Clavinova Grand Piano 1 v2.0, (123MB after decompressing), from Güray Dere: http://www.tunesmithpub.com/~dere/ClavinovaPiano1V 2.0.sfpack "The new version of Clavinova Piano 1 has 7 velocity layers, 3 sample layers with a total of 87 samples. Huge filesize means amazing sound very close to the original... " To my taste, this piano sounds a bit better than the Maestro 636MB, more defined. Sahul |
