I just got into creating effects and whatnot with synthedit (i have the demo, i'll buy the real thing in a day or 2). the first time i try and load a VERY simple VST up (just a moog filter, an LED and 2 small knobs) it froze Live 8.1.1. even after adding the required module folder it still freezes every time. any tips?

edit: i realized there was a glitch in the patch (synthedit didnt include the audioin portino of my effect). now it loads the plugin, then i get a "A serious error has occurred. live will shut down now." box. any tips? im trying with another homemade VST as you read this.

First make sure in Synthedit in the first (main) window is only audio in, audio out and maybe midi in and midi out going into and coming from one container, which includes all the rest.
When saving the VST, make sure to click the right options (mono use ok when effect, plugin is synth when midi in should receive notes.
About Live always use the last update.
On Windows7/Vista read this:
Vista and Windows 7 users

By default Windows 7 and Vista do not allow saving to your VST Plugins
folder. This prevents SynthEdit VSTs from extracting embedded SEMs to disk.
(YOu will get error messages when starting the host / the plugin.

You can fix this by changing the folder's Permissions:

- Use Windows Explorer to browse to your VST Plugins folder.
- Right-click the folder - 'Properties'
- Choose 'Security' tab.
- Click 'EDIT' (You may need to click a UAC prompt).
- Select username "Users".
- Tick options Allow 'Write' and 'Modify'.
- To finish Select 'OK' to close the two dialog boxes

Or use a seperate folder in your main directory instead under "\program files\..."

After this you might need to rescan plugins in the host.
In Ableton Live you need to press ALT while choosing rescan (manual chapt. 16.2.)

Hi,

I know this bug and I prefer provide the sem modules (unzipped by the plug-in) with the plug-in zip because the final user doesn't read anything when he installs the dll...
