Hi Greg
Sorry to hassle you, but I've got a situation in the EEG Lead library whereby the auto assigning of notes/strings are a bit odd. For example, if I manually "strum" (i.e. play on my keyboard) a simple 3 note fifth power chord (with drop d tuning selected - yeah, I know I know), playing the root as the lowest D in EEG's range, then EEG plays all three notes (showing as a 0,0,0 on the botom three strings of the interface's fretboard). All good so far. However if I play the chord with the root a tone higher (i.e. E), then only two notes (not three) are played by EEG (showing as a 9 on the low E string and 7 on the A string - depending on the previous chord played this can sometimes even display as 14 on the low E and 2 on the A string). I know my played notes are going in fine because I've checked them in the midi monitor. If it helps, I've set up my layers so that I have Layer 1: sustain, down-stroke articulation (i.e. playing towards the high pitched E string - activated by a keyswitch) Layer 2: sustain, up-stroke articulation (i.e. playing towards the low pitched E (dropped d) string - activated by a keyswitch) This problem manifests itself when I first play the chord with the up-stroke articulation. Subsequent strums of the chord (upstroke or downstroke, until I change the chord notes) continue to play with only the two notes. This happens when the lowest E or the F in your samples range are the root notes of the chord. Likewise the same happens at the other end of the scale (i.e. if I play a root d in the highest d position that would allow 3 notes to play - except this time if you play the chord for the first time with a down-stroke articulation, only 2 notes are played with 19 being dispayed on the D string and 17 on the high E string) So, do you know what I could have inadvertantly set when setting up my layer mappings to cause the dropping of the 3rd note in the chord and the odd choice of the remaining fretted notes? Or, is there a setting I should have set which I haven't which would stop this? Basically, I want EEG to play all 3 notes if I've strummed them (i.e. played them on the keyboard) if they are within the range of instrument. Any help Greg would be greatly appreciated - oh, and sorry if this has been so wordy. Regards Takk |

Hi Takk,
Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out what might be going on in EEG Strawberry's brain. Would you mind sending me a MIDI file? That would really be helpful. It seems to be something going on with the fretting position... Kind regards, Greg |

Hi Greg
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I've been away since I wrote this message and I am currently away from my DAW until tomorrow. I'll try to get the midi file to you tomorrow at some time. Thanks for your time. Regards Takk |

Hi Greg
Sorry for the very late reply. Been away on vacation and, as is the way, came to sort out some midi's for you earlier and I can't reproduce it. ?. Can't for the life of me work out what I was doing before then. Ho hum. Sorry to have troubled you about this. Cheers Takk p.s. regarding the rhythm update - will you still have the individual string trigger keys (you know, in the current rhythm engine there are six keys that will play the relevant string in the chord, allowing for simple arpeggios of the fretted chord)? These are really nice to have (in addition to the chord strumming keys that you are introducing). |

Yup, there'll still be the ability to trigger individual strings (though you also have the option of triggering the lowest fretted note or the highest fretted note). This is all easy to do using the new strum palette system. In fact, you could do something like trigger the lowest 2 notes, etc. I'm really excited about how both the lead and rhythm component patches are turning out! Actually, I've been adding a few more cool last minute things, too. |

Ah - cool. However I like the idea of having the 12 strumming keys PLUS 6 keys, one for each string. Is that the deal in the new version, or do we have to give up 6 of the 12 strum keys to achieve it?
I know, sorry, but it's all "want want want" isn't it?! Really can't wait for the rhythm update, very excited about it. Any hints on the even newer cool features that you've just added? And also an approx release date? Of course, if answering this message slows the release then I can live without a reply to this message |

Yeah, it would use the keys in the strumming palette. I'll think about that and see if there's another option. Takk wrote: Really can't wait for the rhythm update, very excited about it. Sure! Here are some of the last minute additions I'm putting in--bear in mind, these are in addition to a lot of other updates and additions: Rhythm Guitar: - You no longer have only one version of a voicing per patch, but three variations. You can switch between variations using the mod wheel. - Different release settings, so you're not limited to having the open strings ring after playing a chord. Lead Guitar: - Entirely new legato handling engine for the best retrigger legato possible. (there were a few bugs with the old system when using the strum mode) - Controls to copy/paste/reset layers. |
