Dean, sorry for the ARGGGGGGG on FB, I couldn't resist  Yeah, the Torpedo concept could be a godsend... but the expense coupled with the cost and lack of possibility to actually demo one put me off. I figure if I wait I might get some good reviews to check out, that would be great for me obviously. Can't recommend a decent ribbon along with either a couple of decent dyamics or a dynamic and condenser (which is Your current setup). I won't rattle on why as I've done it all before

This is the one that nails the 121 look but the transformer isn't nearly as good so you need a really high impedance input preamp to get it to sound similar. This one still sounds good, it just has a lot more high frequency roll-off than a 121 when used with a low impedance input preamp. if I built a cabinet for the new Frenzel with a flip top I could easily make another smaller one without the flip top for the littlier [sic] Frenzel (both are fairly small and I have enough of the metal grate to do both AND the Egnater). Then all my amps would have the same look with the black grate for very little extra investment if any at all. Sounds good enough for my needs definately, Yeah maybe not as a pair of drum overheads but on a cab ideal as I really never bought a ribbon for its high-frequency performance other than have used some of the newer active designs as drum overheads (as they extended high enough without sounding that harsh at all). It's not the original cube. It's not the XL or an X although it's a similar layout.
While they claim it's "COSM" technology it sound like just a bunch of eq to me. Everything is "sorta like" something you've heard before but none of the presets sound enough like the real deal. Even the JC sound in it is crap. At least my pignose has personality. I miss my traynor bass amp the most. It puts fender bassman amps to shame with warmth and brilliance. ---- Oh no, that's next door. It's being-hit-on-the-head lessons in here. |

Well, none of that COSM stuff has ever sounded good to me in any of its forms. I was a big proponent of the VG-8 for a long time but that was more for its synthesis capabilities, the amp and guitar modeling side of it was never great. Quote: I miss my traynor bass amp the most.

yesterday for s&gs I watched an auction for an Ampeg V2, it had 16 hours to go and was at 300 dollars...it sold for 306 dollars and it was from Kingston Mass, not close enough for to want to drive...but where are these deals when I'm looking.
