Didn't you already start a Thinking thread, hibidy? If not, bug me (or whomever) next time we get to three hundred pages and you'll probably get the honors then.

There's no hurry. Whenever it's convenient will be fine. Osiris, best PM me when you do so I can move this one to Classics and link to it. I'm going to be busy for a while.

Here's what caused the sirens I recorded along with the frogs and toads and birds last night, and made the flashing blue-lit scene I drove past on the way home:

Ours is a very low-crime neighborhood but even so, stuff happens.

Sounds a little Fortean, maybe the robberies were just a side-effect. (?)

The frogs weren't falling from a blue sky, just ribbiting and greeeeeeping and doonking and crick-cricking in the Gathering Gloom (also breathing deep). If freesound.org ever clears the recording y'all can hear it too. Nice sounds. If you like listening to amphibians and stuff.

The group of deer who visited the other end of the pond while I recorded -- inaudible. Stealthy critters they.

Now thinking: AHA! No wonder I had trouble figuring this code out. The routine that gets a value is called SetVertex, and the one that sets a value is called Vertex. That's... erm, unconventional. Great library, but the internals are full of (to my not-terribly-powerful mind) confusing oddities.

Gotta dig way down into the source code before it begins to become clear how stuff works. This is why I use Personal Brain, a "mind mapping" application, to take notes while disentangling classes and methods and fields and all those programming thingummy-bobs. Couldn't have got this far without my handy auxiliary cerebrum writ in Java.

The free version is available here. It's missing some features of the Pro version, but is still powerful enough for a lot of tasks.

http://www.thebrain.com/

There are a bunch of similar programs, commercial and open source both. Personal Brain (I think now they're calling it TheBrain, which always makes me think "Pinky and") is the one that works best for me.

I would imagine that everyone perceived colors the same way. If they didn't then color blindness tests would not work the same for all people.

this was on the other night, that's suppose to be scotch...I was waiting for a good time to post it but I got impatient Razz

@Meffy: I used PersonalBrain a lot many years ago, but stopped because when the IT guys at work made changes to the servers, or when I switched computers, all my links died.
It's a brilliant tool, but when all (or most) of the shortcuts and links are broken regularly, it stops being useful. Maybe things have changed since I used it - I saw they were at v7 now?

Maybe I should try it again. It made my work life a lot easier before it broke. Not liking the thought of building a workbrain from scratch, though...
