1)when you talk about Nebula, what kind of version of nebula and what specific plug in you are referring to?

Nebula3 Pro 1.3.5xx. If you need to use Nebula 64bit to take advantages of your RAM in a 32bit host then you'll have to buy the "Pro Server Bundle". If you have a 32bit host which supports bridging 64bit plug-ins like REAPER then you don't really need this version (unless you're planning to connect 2 or more PCs and use them as "Nebula Servers"). I strongly suggest you to try the free version I mentioned some posts ago.

2) I am attracted by the PSP Vintage Warmer just for the name Smile !! what are the characteristics of Vintage Warmer with respect to other "saturation" and colouring" plug ins? And what are its drawbacks?

I never liked Vintage Warmer and I wonder why it is so popular. Maybe it's just me. Sorry, I can't help you there.

Great news, i got a very detailed response from fielding dsp and they are very much alive and looking at 64 bit, so all good.

I'll definitely invest in the plug in for sure at some point as i think it really does sound gr8.

cheers

I also asked the FabFilter guys what it would take to create alias free specific harmonics and according to them it's quite easy.. so naturally I suggested it to them and they said "perhaps.. we'll see". Smile

EDIT: I also mentioned this idea in the Voxengo forums. I'm sure Aleksey could easily pull this off. Perhaps he can add it to the VariSaturator plugin as an added feature?

Cheers!

now that fabfilter saturn is available, my obvious question on this thread is:

has it any rle in the master bus? which preset/parameters do you use?

PS: anyway i would like to awite until ubk1 is released, i would like to choose between them for soft saturation on the master bus

OR..and also the dan worral's advice on voxengo tube amp is interesting...really want to check out!!!

The UBK1 to me seems like more of a track compressor/saturation than for the master bus, same with Fabfilter Saturn. If you want master bus saturation, perhaps something designed for specifically that, a'la Slate Digital VCC or Sonimus Satson?

I mix using VCC to a source track. Then I master the source with the UBK-1 first in chain opening up the headroom a bit, subtle saturation set around 20/80, compressor to taste mix around 15/85, hp around 300hz, without or light density.

Along with eq's I'm now trying the new Toonboosters TB ReelBus last pre Limiter.
Getting some nice mixes this way, not overly compressed , not pumping but with motion & warmer.

Hello guys,

I was wondering if it is ok to use the Kramer MPX (tape) plugin in the master bus before send it to a mastering engineer.

Will this affect the mastering procedure or make the engineer's life difficult?

I am not talking for limiters/compressors or mastering plugins.

Just the tape plugin.

Really curious.

thanks in advance.

You could if that's the sound you're going for. Just remember it can't be taken off later. Give the ME 2 version samples & ask his opinion.

Thank you for your answer.

I am pretty sure that this is what I am looking for.

I adjust the record level in order to see the signal in the meters reaching 0db and the I bring the playback level up until the master reaches 0db.

I do not overuse.. I just like how it sounds and 'feels'.

I am asking this question in order to find out if it works like a mastering plugin. (because it boosts the signal some dbs)

I then usually add a vintage warmer to boost the final signal (but I know that this works like compressor/limiter)

It just that if I turn off both vsts the sound changes dramatically.

I have also tried to use it as a return effect to some samples however I couldnt make it sound like using it in master.

personalty I like roundtone if you listen to it you will hear a slight saturation of the kicks and a softening of the high end that with my Bus from stripbus both sknote plugins. I find they help a lot when on the master bus as far as on channels though I go for corrective eq strip after that and then a compressor if needed usually i get a nice effect but I also like the new toneboosters tapebus i think its called. Very Happy

Soundtoys Decapitator sounds great on the master even with Slate VCC already there. Slate Virtual Tape goes into beta this weekend so looking forward to trying that in a few months. Waves Kramer Tape was magic for van halen type music.
