Yes, they did their marketing very well and this iPad 3 will be a winner, as always.

It is sure very interesting for the millions of average iPad customers.

I/we use the iPad as a creativ tool. And this new iPad is not gonna boost my creativity with these "new Features".

I maybe buy a Mac mini with the Money instead Wink

Agreed. Same goes with the iPhone.

I'm getting the iPad 3 because I don't have an iPad yet. If I had an iPad 2, I'd wait for iPad 4.

Luckily I got an excuse for sticking to my iPad 2 for a good deal of years to come, namely the MPC fly controller:, http://www.akaiprompc.com/mpc-fly , which I am dying to lay my hands on. The iPad3 just got thicker and won't fit it and if I know apple right, they will continually change the form factors of upcoming iPads.

Now if only Akai actually will release it THIS summer and not in the spring 2013. Their Synthstation 49 for iPad was announced at NAMM 2011 and hasn't reach the shelves yet.

Without sounding too negative Akai are not the best at releasing or updating their products.

The mpd16, no driver updates is a classic Akai trick.

If Akai is really smart, they would make the MPC Fly deep enough to fit both the iPad 1 and iPad 2, which would be enough to fit the iPad 3. If it is only large enough to fit the iPad 2, though, my guess is they will tweak the design that extra .03" for the iPad 3 before releasing.

Same here, I have an iPad 2 and I am not inclined for the new one, as it does not boost creative performance that much. Since half of the CPU power is eaten away by the massive Retina display anyway. and the camera well,... as often as I use it, it's no point for me.

iPad 1 to iPad 2 was big, IMHO.

I'm highly unimpressed. Apart from the RAM the improvements are maginal.
No quad core, and, as worse as it generally gets with Apple anyway: Still no option to serve as a USB host, so you can transfer files from and to mobile drives and sticks. I started to like the iPad quite a bit (have been fooling around with the one of a mate for a couple of days), but having no option to put files onto it without using an additional computer makes it absolutely pointless. Oh, I hear you already: "Why not just use iCloud?" - well, for example, right now I'm on tour. Internet access very often is either slow or expensive. So the last thing I want to do is to wait endlessly for a 2GB movie (recorded via DVBT, hence the size, and please don't tell me to convert it...) to load through a slow connection. I have a nice 2.5" USB drive filled with movies and I want to watch them while being on the road. As easy as that. The iPad doesn't deliver. That is just uber-lame.
But well, I'm sure Apple will again find millions of people paying premium money for a product that, at least in many aspects, is technically 90-ish.
Quite a dissapointment.

Err, nifty devices. But: How do I get my EyeTV movies (well, in fact they're MPGs) from those drives into the iPad/Phone? I mean, they need to end up in an app being able to actually play them. I may miss something obvious, but what?

For example AirStash seems to have it's own app to view movies stored on it:

Lokk on the App Store for an App to play this format and that's it.

The seagate Satellite is not as good as the Airstash. Witht the last one you can save file to and from the device. It's not just to stream, you've got a real file system.

Yeah, but it says:

Quote:
Play video files supported by your Apple device

Now, the video files supported by my Apple device are compressed movies (mkv and the likes). iDevices don't play any uncompressed movies by default (not even .mov, which is extremely weird as it's the format their very own cameras use to record).
Hence I'm using either VLC (not supported anymore, as it seems) or OPlayer (which is quite good and plays just about any file you throw at it).

My question remains. How do I get a video from, say, that Airstash thing into an app of my choice? Do they all of a sudden show up with a file browser?
Also, how would I store, say, a GB song onto that device?
