Hey,
I have a split GK3, but it requires batteries. Can I stream 6 streams of audio into my DAW with it? I am screwing around with passive pickup and home-brew audio-MIDI software, and like the look of the thing. If I can have 6 streams over USB, I am sold- so, is this possible? I recall admiralquality explaining how you would go about this Nick mate in a recent thread where someone was asking if it was possible to/or if there was a Roland VG/COSM plug-in equivalent available. So if you search then it should come up or you could ask the admiral dude.
Hope you are well and things are good, All the best your way as always Dean Edit: Here you go, Hope i am understanding what you are asking man: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=340189&postday s=0&postorder=asc&start=0 http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4813307&highli ght=#4813307 Peace ---- Shit For Blood, Piss For Brains |

Thanks Dean,
My first post was bad at describing what I want to know. Cheers again. What I need to know is if the GR-55 acts as a soundcard and gives me the 6 audio streams from the GK-3 as audio--like the sound of the pickup--before any synth translation is done. So I would have 6 audio channels show in my DAW over USB, that would contain the audio for each string. Then I can do my own audio to MIDI conversion on them. hmm, I'm getting one tomorrow, with 10 days to test it. Hope u r lovin' the waves mate ---- Smoke the pipe of peas, human beans! http://soundcloud.com/nix808 http://rekkerd.org/nix-plugs/ Phonics Audio |

Yes i am always loving the waves and distorting them. I have tried the GR-55 but that was not for long in my local which does not have a computer/recording department so i simply played it with a GK-3 equipped electric into a a regular amp/cab setup. I did not look into it any further but was quite impressed with it even though i am not a big synth sort of guy, It was alot of fun and Roland definately tightened things up IMO with the GR-55 and I am sure if memory serves we had a brief chat about it awhile ago in the 'your next guitar' thread IIRC with some videos of it in action posted, They did not contain more than a two part product demo though not anything in the way of technical detail again. I can not say anymore than that as i do not know. I hope someone comes along and answers/helps you out with the question. Enjoy the box when it comes as i sure did and as said it was maybe 40 minutes at best but good fun, So 10 days should be many hours of fun. Hope it operates/splits the way you want it to do. UncleE/Eric is always a good reliable source of solid information with the tech side of things as i am sure you know already. So perhaps he will know/worth sending a PM
Peace man and have fun either way, Catch up again soon bro ---- Shit For Blood, Piss For Brains |

No, it doesn't do 6 separate streams, just stereo in/out. In fact the audio driver is pretty crappy, there's very little control at all. |

Here -
http://www.rmcpickup.com/fanoutbox.html Gibson was doing something like that for awhile too. I forget their take on it. In order to stream it to your computer with 6 separate channels you'll prolly need a separate firewrie mixer not a usb mixer ---- Oh no, that's next door. Ta a bundle folks,
KVR never seems to fail when I have audio questions. Polaris, thank you, I cancelled my trial, coz without this feature it is less fun 4 me, and doesn't aid my product development. Tapper, keep an eye out 4 my conversion package, I will put video and audio demos up within the year. I am just now going to enqire about the price for a Fanout Box. Should be better not worrying about batteries running out, and I have my eye on a Godin Freeway SA to plug into it(already have the GK3). My breakout box is a little agricultural ATM. Alternately, hopefully my Ubertar pickup bleeds little enough after I get some littler magnets for it. My software seems to be doing what it should. I need to set up an envelope follower to give velocity, and raid BertAnt's schemtics to try and implement pitch bend, but basically it seems OK. Latency is average around 1500 samples at 44100hz, which is perceptibly quite snappy. Less for highE & more for low, it is diallable, any less and it starts to become innaccurate, but user will be able to dice as low as they like. All pitch detection is samplerate. Usine triggers the MIDI at around 7500 hz I think. Sorry for waffling on so much, but i really like messing with this now 8D ---- Smoke the pipe of peas, human beans! http://soundcloud.com/nix808 http://rekkerd.org/nix-plugs/ Phonics Audio |

I've got a freeway. It doesn't run on gk's it runs on ghost riders.
Ghost riders are like rmc's the are piezo. As a result you don't get oddball ghost notes and wierd volume /velocity shifts but what you do get is note cut off. ---- Oh no, that's next door. It's being-hit-on-the-head lessons in here. |

one of my friend did separate the 6 streams frm the 13 pin cable, in 6 inputs of hus soundcard and made a reaktor/max ensemble to track the pitch/fx each strings separately |

I'll think about ponying up for the Godin, but I need to sort out the power supply-or is the Ghost passive?
I actually have one of those KMI StringPort units, not realizing b4 I bought it that it is Mac OSX only, thanks. Mike, I hope you have satisifaction in ur Ztar, my software will be demoed in DIY before too long, if u r curious to pop in and check it anyway. Cheers 8D M4M, my software is built in SynthMaker and Usine. I have 2 hexaphonic setups atm, GK3 and Ubertar. I have MAX/msp, but can't really see that it would have any advantages over what I am doing currently. ---- Smoke the pipe of peas, human beans! http://soundcloud.com/nix808 http://rekkerd.org/nix-plugs/ Phonics Audio |

The power is drawn from the box it is sent to Just like a GK A fanout box sends current to the 13 pin connector. Which is why a freeway SA does not have piezo audio out. Other Godin's use internal battery supplies such as the The Multiac Grand Concert (RMC) which I also own and The The LGX-SA which I thought about purchasing a long time back but didn't.
As far as Godin's go I always preferred fishmans for piezo. Honestly I don't think you'll be getting any more out of it then you currently already do. KMI StringPort is really just a fanout box with power supply preamp and some other niceties like compression. I doubt if you will get both isolation and voltage/sustain. Like I said previously where as gk's primarily get the signal from the string itself ghost riders and rmc's get more sound from the soundboard or top of the guitar. It means less ghost notes but it also means lowered output. It also means notes as you move up the neck have a tendency to cut off a bit more. ---- Oh no, that's next door. You get a ton of ghost notes with the GR-55. The Ghost system is terrible, compared to RMC and Roland's own stuff in terms of noise and glitching. |

Thanks for the heads up Polaris,
I'll possibly try the Freeway SA, but not for now. The RMC Fanout is powered over 13 pin by whatever box it is plugged into I think. Yeah, sustain is a problem with these systems, as Mike has pointed out. You either have decent sustain, or the strings don't retrigger when playing successive notes. My little magnets for Ubertar hex should be here within a week. Cheers 8D ---- Smoke the pipe of peas, human beans! http://soundcloud.com/nix808 http://rekkerd.org/nix-plugs/ Phonics Audio |
