Great Stuff. A genuine booty-shaker with some great sounds. I'm no expert on this style, but the mix sounded cool to me. Some interesting rhythmic touches on here.

i think it just needs a touch more compression and a little adjustment of the parts to bring it back in line. with a little pumping from the compressor it'll accent the half-beat organ stabs a little more. they could also be reduced very slightly, maybe 1, 2, or 3db.
a little bit more swing might help too, or just some variation on the position of the stabs in a one or two bar groove might make it a little more funky. (it can be surprising sometimes the effect that delaying a complete track against another only very slightly can have.) it also sounds quite dry - it's possible to handle that in many different ways. one is to add a little harmonic content through the use of either just a compressor or other tools. ("saturators", "exciters", etc) another is just a tiny touch of room reverb over the whole track, but focused on snares and toms with minimal effect on hats. adding another layer or two would probably help it as well. another set of hats/shakers, some accent with toms or congas and a variation on the stabs and basses. |
