Hi,
I haven't been using Live for that Long so please bare with me. I am trying to save a VST pre-set without over writing the original pre-set. The VSTi I'm using Does not seem to have it's own save pre-set function. So I was trying to save the new tweaked pre-set using lives pre-set box. So I selected a included pre-set from the live pre-set box for that VST.I than tweaked the VST a little and tried to save it as a new pre-set by clicking lives pre-set button.I was than given the option to save as a VST Bank or VST program. I've tried saving as both of these using a different pre-set name than the original . All that is happening is the Original gets over written with the tweaks I've made. How do I just save the tweaks has a new pre-set and leave the original intact?. Thanks for any assistance . oh also the original VST bank does not have any extra spare pre-set slots . ---- Before the Beginning there was Rhythm. After the end there will be Rhythm. Not quite sure about the Middle Bit? http://www.myspace.com/ib1dance |

Hi
I'm having the same problem, long after you posed this question. Nobody answered you, apparently. Did you ever find out? I've hunted all over the net trying to find the secret. I know it's a secret 'cause no one wants to tell me. I've tried changing the name of the altered preset but that doesn't help, it just comes back as original next time I load the VST. |

If you click on the small floppy disk icon next to the small folder one on the displayed plug-in(s) chain bit, This lets you save and load .FXP and .FXB files
That should sort you two out I think, Or you could save each as its own rack device should you want to do it that way (I am pretty sure that it works/saves everything that way also) All the best Dean ---- Shit For Blood, Piss For Brains |

Hi Dean.
Thanks for the quick reply. I have used the method you suggested,it seems to be the only way in Live. I make some tweaks, changes, to a particular preset in a VST, give it a name and save it using the save as .FXP feature, and save it in a place on disc. However, when I call it up again, it appears with the original name of the preset I have altered. It has the changes I made but not the name. The original preset, unchanged, is still there, it only comes up changed if I call up the name I gave it by going to it via Load Preset or Bank. I am at a loss to understand this and it is driving me nuts. How can it lose it's name in transit? I know nothing about the other method you suggested,ie.saving each as its own rack device. How does one do that? |

I can not help on the first part Wraith, Hopefully someone can come along and give you a good answer on that one. Personally i just save single .FXP for each plug-in i may wish to re-use, Never banks to be honest. On top of that I do not use VSTi synths so never myself need full .FXB things. As said I am sure that someone on here does and knows the answer to that one However I can help on the second part, Simply right click on the load plug-in (or plug-ins if you want to save a chain of instrument and processor/effect plug-ins, 3rd-Party or Live's built-in stuff works the same, Multiple select via Shift-clicking) and from the options choose to group/add to group. Then you can simply save it as an effects rack or an instrument rack in. Then you can find them inside live's library itself and 'hotswap' them. This video was the first that came up when i search youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UIOdrDW3GQ (If in the video the person does not use third-party VST/VSTi plug-ins as said you can still treat them in the same manner) Hope that helps and all the best Dean ---- Shit For Blood, Piss For Brains |

Click the device and drag it into your library. It will show up like any other Live device. Note that you can't load this patch from the VST directly because it's a Live device. |

Thanks for your advice, people. I will try out the ideas given & see what happens.
However,I have been given what seems to be the best way to save a preset in Live, by another member, Ugo, in a question in another part of this Forum. Here is how:- FXP files actually require the name to be saved twice. Hosts usually provide a function for changing the preset name that is displayed, which is separate from the actual file name. Live has a bit of an odd way of organizing their commands, but here's how to do it: 1) With M-theory (or any plug-in) open, click the device title bar above the preset name, so that the bar turns orange/yellow - indicating it has been selected. 2) Go to the top menu in Live and choose Edit / Rename Plug-in Preset. This will change the name that is displayed. 3) With your preset renamed, now go back to the preset name display area at the bottom of Live and click the save button. 4) Name the preset again, this time to name the actual FXP file itself. I have followed the above method, to the letter, applying tweaks to a preset in M-theory VST then saving it as described. Works fine. When I called up the newly named preset, it came in above the original preset. Just keep the method on file somewhere. I for one do not find it easy to remember. |
