a daft, daft poll. Unless everyone knows from experience all hosts.

I use Cubase. I assure you it isn't the most efficient. Maybe it's competitive on the windoze platform. Under OSX it's SLOW. I have not really used Reaper, there isn't anything attractive to me about Reaper, but it is touted as having been coded to where it's more efficient. I don't doubt it. I have used Logic and I know it's far more efficient than Cubase. I still use Cubase.

That's all I know. My vote is for Logic, just to get a non-Reaper number up there, even though Reaper WILL WIN! LOL.

*Reaper is the most popular host at KVR*. We know this already. This thread is another, 'what's the best DAW?' REAPER!

Sorry for being daft but that wasn't my intention, and this has nothing about what is the 'best' overall, just concerning CPU. I'm just curious, but then curiosity did kill the cat, or so its said. Shrug

Sorta have to side with Jancivil here... it would have been a better idea to simply ask for hands-on experiences with this particular issue.

And here's mine: I use Live, FLStudio and Reaper. I love Live, but it's horrible on CPU. Simply awful, especially when compared with Reaper. Reaper always strikes me as being extremely efficient - as someone already mentioned, the multicore usage seems to be highly optimized. FLStudio is somewhere in the middle of that. Not bad, not great.

no worries, everyone is daft some of the time...

but the results are basically, 'My DAW of course'.

If 'host' is taken to mean, 'DAW host', what I'm about to say isn't a fit.

Vienna Ensemble Pro is a very efficient host. It's what I use to get around the problem of Cubase being not very efficient on this platform. It compensates for its own latency perfectly. It's multiprocessor support is good.
What it does for me is take Cubase's inefficiency out of the picture.

Logic is shockingly efficient, to me. It does some thing like ignore that in the project you aren't using at the moment to achieve that, apparently.

Well I wouldn't say that if my DAW wasn't very efficient. I LOVE Live, switched begrudgingly because Live5 was a dog on the CPU and it didn't seem upgrading would fix that. I'm happy with Reaper because partly because it is efficient, but I wouldn't say that if it weren't my experience. If i had a much faster computer I would likely have stuck with Live.

I was also wondering about just a wrapper to host DIVA to her fullest possible on my hardware without a lot of overhead, something I could load and just play without the host sucking up any juice. Anyone have any recommendations regarding that?

braj, are you on Mac or Windows? If Mac, there's a little utility called Audio Plugin Player -- $2.99 in the App Store. Hosts a single VI at a time (AU or VST), that's it. Works fine; I use it every day.

I'm on a PC, but good to know.

In terms of efficiency Reaper than Logic and maybe S1 or Cubase but in terms of stability, Logic outperforms all around

I refuse to vote in this subjective and slanted poll. do you Reaper lovers really need any more validation from me, NOT. Why is it you guys need to run this perpetual popularity contest, you know you got the best DAW why are you so insecure with your choice. This is getting to look like a mental deficiency needing psychiatric treatment. your inferiority complex will not be assuaged by this insignificant and pompous poll.

So put that in your bubble pipe and BLOW IT.... Very Happy

I think your subjective, slanted opinions are showing actually, this poll is 'pompous'? geez! I have no agenda here, I was simply wondering. I don't think Reaper is the best DAW or anything like that, it was what I could afford to be honest, I'd have stuck with Live if it was worth it to upgrade. BTW no one is objective, we all deal with everything from a subjective perspective. We have no other option really Shrug

Besides minihost as a simple vst wrapper, I know of savihost. You just rename savihost.exe to the name of the dll and it loads it like that wrapped up. It's bigger brother vsthost has more functionality.

Well... in terms of CPU efficiency Reaper IS simply the best. As much as i hate the "try Reaper" "Use Reaper" posts or threads in this forum as well. Smile Saying that, i tried Cubase 6 (Elements), energyXT, Podium Free and LMMS. None even come near Reaper regarding VST performance and speed. Cubase is the most bloated and slowest of the ones i mentioned btw... it's a shame that you cannot just deativate stuff you don't need. I mean seriously, what's the percentage of users who use the video engine in it for example...

I figured I'd get a rise out of it being as you started this thread, just didn't figure you would be so quick. Smile

Once again Too subjective for any accurate polling my friend ( pssst....just teasing all the Reaper fans out there... don't tell anybody). Very Happy
