hi guys
as from the title... stero imaging processors are something i know very little...sometimes listening to my mixes i hear ther are somewhat lacking some "stereo" space,,, of course i use panning for instance on drum parts, sometimes ping pong delay when i like it, reverb, and so on on my tracks still, they lack this "stereo something" that instead i can hear in most professional electornic songs; i use cubase 6.5 and have izotope ozone 4 , i think both of them have a stereo image processor...but what are in general the stereo widener plugins that you use for that on the master bus? is cubase's one any good? and anyway...other suggestions? ---- My strange songs are here: http://www.reverbnation.com/farguardian http://soundcloud.com/witch-1 |

I generally would only stick a stereo widener on the master bus if I only want a slight touch of the effect. This is something you should fix in the mix though, just listen to a good track and try to identify what parts of the songs are in what space of the field. Having a chorus or unison effect with detuning helps to stretch a sound out. If you have a strong lead you want to keep, but at the same time widen, duplicate the sound and have a version of it with a heavy unison detuning effect playing at the same time. |

All that stereo widening does is bring up the volume of the sides. If you get a free plugin such as MSED, you can split the mid and side signals to bring up the side volume to obtain the same effect. ---- Analog synth or plugin? The elitists go silent when a blind test is involved. |

You might want to give a try to our Chor'X Spatializer chorus.
www.xils-lab.com Combined with the Chorus engine, it has a True Stereo Dynamic Engine (TDSE), that let you place very presicely the instrument in the stereo scene. ( not pan, true stereo ) You can set the width of the scene, place your mikes, modify the angle of the mikes, then even add dynamic movement. All this in a superfast and intuitive UI. And of course you can also use the sweet vintage chorus simultaneously to add depth, or dimension. But its not mandatory you can use the TSDE alone as well. Demo is dongleless, ChorX is dongleless, ad you have a nice intro price. What can one ask for more ? I'm quite happy with the one incl in Cubase 6.5 StereoEnhancer at 138-148 settings.
If i'm picky about stereo enhancement i usually use Nugen Stereoizer. |

I like the Cubase stereo enhancer but I don't use it on the master bus. I prefer to use it on individual tracks that need widening. |

A ms EQ like BX digital can be a very powerfull thing on the master bus. But it can also ruin a good mix. |

I agree with you on this. But I still have to say that It's probably quite possible to ruin a good mix with any kind tool out there. Especially by slapping any kind of "stereo enhancers" on the master bus. MS Eq can work very well if you know what you're doing. |
