I'm not starting an Android / Apple tabelts war, just looking for some help to decide what to buy. Any comments are welcome, regarding Androids tablets too, thanks

I'm almost ready to buy an iPad but can't decide if I should take a 2 or a 3?

How is "old" Apps looking like on an iPad3 (in regards to iPad 2) as Rebirth f.example? Is the graphic "awfull" because of the higher resolution? Do all "older" Apps need to be upgraded? Are "old" Apps performing better on the new model?

Is the processor power of the iPad 3 (that) much better for new Apps in the future?

Anything else to think about?

Depends what you want to do, ipad has some cool audio apps but wont ever have plugins. USB interfacing is tricky. Android has some cool apps but has latency. I wouldnt recommend either - go for a laptop for best flexibility.

If you can afford the 3 then get it gives a larger (if still somewhat small window of future proofing)

Think about features you would expect to come from apple, then figure out which ones aren't on the ipad 3.
This is the list of features that will slowly be added to further versions. Apple likes to withhold features for more $.

If you're content with the ipad 3, go for it. Just know that in a year or two, IOS will have likely moved past it and the newest apps won't work.

"quayquay17" I'm not quiet sure I understand what you mean. Of course in 1 year or 2 all will be different but I'm trying to figure out what is the best for right here right now and in the near future.

In brief, best satisfaction for the money for the longest time you know?

And I know that all is subjective with just personal feeling with expectation and speculation.

Actually if you reason like this, there is no space for 'personal' and 'subjective'. The best value for money for the future is the iPad 3. Because support of the iPad 2 will definitely be dropped before the iPad 3.



IF you had a iPad 2 I totally see no reason to upgrade, as far as music is concerned.

Yes so you say in every possible thread you can but people who come to forums like this don' t want laptops but tablets, is that really so hard to understand for you? Why don' t you try to answer the question of the thread instead of this compulsive perserveration of an irrelevant, backward-looking and boring message?

As far as I know the iPad 1 still runs all the current music apps (there may be a few rare exceptions I don't know about). It is now 2 years old, so I wouldn't really worry so much about years into the future, and instead focus on now.

I find I have no limitations (for what I do) with the iPad 2. Both 3 and 2 will work fine, but for value I would go with an iPad 2. If you are a big movie watcher (I'm not) then you may want the beautiful screen of the 3.

The OP question was asking about tablets, what does that have to do with a laptop? You seem to be confused a lot when trying to "help" someone. If you don't use a tablet, then don't worry about them. Go use your laptop (I use mine all the time and love it) and answer questions from laptop users. Someday when you have a tablet, you will can then speak from experience and provide helpful suggestions. Pretty simple really.

Laptops ARE forward looking. If you ever want to add USB etc devices or plugins you can. If you ever want to try your DAW from Mac/PC, you can. Until that changes on ipad, its a sideways step. All you gain is the touch interface and you lose a lot. A number of people are asking about ipad USB addons and are confused because its a minefield. The OP asked if theres anything else to think about so I think Ive answered that. Youve added nothing.

One moment I think it's best to buy a 2 and 2 sec. later I definitly want a 3! Think I have to take a final decision soon before I'll gonna be crazy!

Ipad3 is my first Ipad, though I own a Xoom and my wife had an Ipad1.

My opinion is that the Retina screen is absolutely NOT essential for music production. The extra CPU power is nice but not necessary.

But I think the EXTRA RAM really helps with music. Therefore, for $100 more, I'd get the Ipad3.

Is that so? Up to yet, bar the few camera apps that arent supported by the ipad1 (no camera on the device) everything is still good to go on ipad 1. Garageband for example runs on my 1 & 3 and I have owned both the devices since they were launched.

IPhone 3 struggles with some newer apps but it was supported for 'more than a year or two' as you claim.

Either the two or the three will probably be fine for you for music but i am stunned by the new display, so i'd say a 3 purely for aesthetics.
