I applied a series of tutorials and came up with a nice (well nicest I've done yet) few bars + little build + few bars:
http://www.christopherpisz.is-a-geek.com/temp/PlayingAround. wav I think the most definitive sound in there is the pitch bending synth at the climax about 0:45 onward. I know I've heard this before at clubs a million times, years ago. Well, I am not sure how to "come out of it". Obviously, I can't sit there sweeping and octave up and down the whole song. So, I wanted to search for music that has that sound and see what they do for some ideas. Problem is, I am not sure what genre this is, or what to search for. What should I look up? What genre would you call this? Any ideas how to "come out of it?" |

Psy trance is what I was reminded of when I heard the drop. |

What you've got is good! Maybe a short, bright crash cymbal or synth noise splash on the one after the build would release the built up tension nicely.
And here's a few other tricks I've heard in clubland: There's basically two ways you can go: Every damn instrument from the song comes in at that point, or break it down to a few elements like the opening of your demo. Most tracks I've heard with these big builds usually don't bring the vocal in right away the crescendo, let it breathe for 4 or 8 bars to let the groove work. The latest Rihanna track "We Found Love" does it LOTS!!! The first is at 1:44... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg00YEETFzg Another cool trick is to have all the tracks "suck" into silence with a white noise filter sweep on beat 4 of the last measure of the build, THEN hit with the big bridge or hook on the next downbeat. Adding a synth explosion, splash or boom sound there will add BIG impact! KVR/eSoundz: Xenobt |
