I use several Combs, e.g. Absynth 5 FX, the Supercomb is really good, so is the regular one, then GRM Tools Combfilter and of course the mighty Zebrify one.

I also took part in the latest Iris survey and made my suggestions, I still haven't signed up for their Betatesting though, just no time for it. Regarding Iris FX, have you tried iZotope's RX2 - basically it has a similar engine and in spectral repair mode you can isolate/interpolate/delete spectral bands, it's more limited than Iris though and it's not in realtime but the results are very good, not only for "repairing" audio but also for creative sounddesigning.

I may get RX2 one day, yes.
It was infact on the application that I started musing...we do not need the repair tools, and Iris does have several advantages, like being very straightforward. Hence the birth of the idea of Iris FX, like Absynth FX.

Thanks for all thos combs names. Not that I think the software does it - it is the user who, well used it - but it's good to know from someone whose sounpalet one likes.

The GRM tools I know of as they go back to Pierre Colombier (and a little bit, if we think broadly, Pierre Henry). Absynth is the onion synth. Everytime you have digested one layer, another one is waiting.

Is this whining? No far from.

Because that video is like a super-concentrated vitamine pill. It's a very good way to get acquainted with all of Iris' features, and on video of those I know of the best. After watching it, you're ready to jump to intermediate-level in no time. After that, Sampleconstruct's patches lead you into the high mountains of expert use.

Happy to have invested in both.

I was wondering, how much time it takes to create an original .wav that you import into Iris and after that how much time to create the actual patch in Iris?

And do the quality of the import .wav is important? I don't have Iris and it look pretty nice but I don't really have access to huge bank of quality .wav files and I wonder if I can still create good patches without them.

Iris is not a sampler lie for example Kontakt. It's more a sample manipulator, so the quality of the wave file is not important. On the contrary. Iris imports a wave file as material and everything that is available can be used. With the toolds you select parts from what's available and that is used to create the new sound. You can for example have a badly recorded blackbird singing through a thunderstorm, a perfectly recorded Stradivari violin, the sound of a babbling brook or some recording from your television set. The "bad" recordings may contain patterns that Iris can turn into something fascinating.
