Hey,
I've been trying to recreate this sound: http://youtu.be/_fyyFFAmxIg?t=2m28s The squary sawy lead that comes in, really simple sound and I've managed to get close with just sylenth1 and square and saw oscillators mixed, with some monolegato & portamento glide with "slide", but I don't get the grittyness that he has in his leads, I was wondering if you guys could help me out to get this sound? Thanks. EDIT: this is what I came up with (the closest try) http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/52944431/file.html |

Have you thought about using layers? These big leads usually have several synth patches creating them |

Honestly I can't get this sound.. been trying all day, ARGHHHH. It sounds distorted, I've tried everything from distortion to reverb, to sample delays and different reverbs panned, compression, layering, you name it. TIPS anyone?
Headhunterz seems to use this technique quite alot.. even on other tracks, I'm interested in getting this really hard sound (since I think it sounds amazing), here's another track he gets this dirty/grittyness in the leads. http://youtu.be/VaiHTvifGt0?t=2m11s |

You need to separate out the top square lead from the bottom notes which are distorted saws. There's also a pad going on in the background which are colouring the overall sound as well.
I made that very sound recently in Sylenth, although I suspect the original is out of a Virus which is particularly crunchy. Here's the Sylenth patch anyway http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/90509684/file.html |

I know that Headhunterz is using Logic's ES2 for the toplead (the square thingie), but what I'm looking for is the detuned kind of gritty sound, the toplead is easy, the rest is the hard part for me. And as you say, he uses layers from the VIRUS TI aswell, and I happen to have one VIRUS TI Snow, it's just that I'm not using it much at all.. is it really necessary? I've tried this, I just don't get it how to layer it? I mean, in a melody, maybe you don't have any "low notes", how do I do it then? For example this is my melody: http://www30.zippyshare.com/v/63896200/file.html (PS. what do you think of this melody?) How would you split that up? Also, what notes would the pad play to color it? I got so much to learn here, and this is what Ive been searching for, for a very long time! cheers alot for the answer! Would appreciate if someone could be a little more clear about this (since this is obviously what I fail at) Again thank you for the reply! Very much appreciated! Stabbman wrote: Yo!
That would be awsome mate! Thanks alot!! actually, what I want is something similar to this: http://youtu.be/VaiHTvifGt0?t=2m11s he seems to put the grittyness on all of his leads and it makes them sound so amazing and fat! |

Did a few new tries, layered with some detuned saws with abit of release and reverb, mixed underneath, but still doesn't sound right, any tips here? about the splitting, if I have a melody with no lower notes, what to do then? what I did was copy the exact pattern and just put it down an octave, don't know if this is what was meant by "tehlord"? any tips here would really be appreciated! This is really driving me nuts, will upload a few new tries tomorrow aswell.. |

I used the sylenth1 preset that was provided by tehlord, then just mixing some detuned saws at lower volume, keeping the square lead that he provided at a higher volume, but I'm really not happy with the result yet, lol. |

You need to update your sylenth1 then, you're running an old version of sylenth! Which of the sounds are you thinking about btw? send me the link of what you thought was cool. I can upload a video on sunday or so to show you exactly what the parameters are and how I layered them if you want, to help out. I'm still at a pretty basic level of this processing, therefore I asked for help here, but I'm glad to help others out too |
