I can never seem to get this feature to work correctly. I import an audio file of a breakbeat and follow the steps but when i go and quantize my own drum audio hits they never seems to line up right..any thoughts? |

thanks for the response! What do u mean exactly? If i get what I think you mean...they don't line up how the groove was extracted. I.E. the way they should be quantized they aren't. |

What I mean is, do the slices or hit points move their positions when you apply groove quantize or do they remain the same?
If they don't move at all it could be that you simply forgot to select your audio clip with the arrow tool before applying quantize. If they move but not all that you wanted, check your quantize settings. Cubase can apply anything between 1% to 100% quantization. If some slices move to weird places, then you are probably using an incomplete groove, that is, you have extracted a groove from a beat that has some silences. You should make sure that the groove you are going to use has every 1/16 beat covered. |

If i want to use a groove that doesnt have every 16th note in use is there a way I can "fill in the blank spaces in the groove" if u will? |

To fill the blank spaces you could just apply the groove to a midi file containing only 16 '1/16' notes (you know:----------------) and edit it with the midi editor. If there is a gap after the second kick, for example, just copy and paste the same notes after the first kick.
For additional grooves: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/../../Download/Additional_Content/Cu base_5_Groove_Templates/ It's a Cubase 6 project with a lot of midi clips, each one quantized to a different groove. You simply copy the groove from each clip and save a quantize preset. I recommend you to create a keyboard shortcut for "create groove" to speed up the process (page 542 in the manual): First open the Quantize Panel. Then, for each clip -Select midi clip -Hit the key you have assigned to "create groove" (you will see that a preset with the clip's name is created) -Click on "+" in the Quantize Panel to save the preset Repeat for all clips in the project. Also read page 109 in the manual to learn about all the features for grooves in Cubase, you won't need anything else. |
