if you have the means, isitope ozone is a great mastering effect and works pretty well in flstudio. i think thats how its spelled..fruityloops also has the fruity stereo enhancer that widens everything up a bit.

----Compression is a harsh mistress, you want the truth ? Try some demos and spend those hours that you are asking us to make up for you,and just hear the difference and learn it yourself by ear.

what helps most - at least i think so - is an actual understanding of sound, as opposed to 'just' knowing 'facts'. A lot of times there are things I 'know' for quite some time and then sometimes I have some kind of strange sense of revelation and I can approach the subject from a different perspective.

E.g. when you're doing mixing/mastering, it's quite interesting to consider that (correct me if i'm wrong) EQ, compression and panning are actually all just modifying volume in one way or another. In stereo, the pan knob is nothing more, but a know for simultaneous volume control of the left speaker and the right speaker. That might seem totally obvious, but like I said, I think it's very much a question of mindset.

There was one compressor out there, that also had little visuals (before/after), where you could see what you were doing.

It's nice to hear that mastering is taken for granted. (ahum) What do you expect ? When you know nothing about the subject ? Nobody over here will give you a tutorial or lessons in a quick snap...
Actually your degrading the subject.

Limiting is setting a borderline.
Compressing is riding the waves.

That's pretty good dvdvelde - I don't think I've seen it expressed exactly like that before - and in just a few short words too! Cool

Why are you using FL5? FL8 has been out for a while now and with Image-Line offering free lifetime upgrades, the only reason you would still be using v5 is if you're a pirate.

Go buy a copy you f**king thief.

(edited to be less grumpy)
I've been using FL since 3.0. I've stayed with v5 because for v6 they rewrote the audio engine and it wasn't as efficient for me. I also didn't like the extensive changes to the mixer.
I don't know what the situation is for the original poster, but neither do you.
