hi!
it has been a while i was working on this track: http://soundcloud.com/bosone/years-studio-drummer-mix-2 I have revised the mix several time and each time I'm not so satisfied. now i'm trying with native instruments studio drummer, stadium kit, where i tweaked the room and OH mix for snare and the different mics for snare and kick. For guitar and bass I used guitar rig (rammfire 4 the guitars) and garritan orchestra for orchstral sounds. what do you think about it?? what I should refine?? This is the final mix, I still lack mastering and EQ refinement. thanks for listening! |

I think it sounds really good actually. The vocals are very nice and more important than anything, it's simply a good song. The only problem as I see it (or hear it) is that when the guitar solo (nice job on that too) kicks in and the orchestral sounds disappear, so does the depth or volume of the track. It's hard to tell as I'm listening on some computer speakers at work.
Overall though, it's very strong. And it's nice to hear someone get a good metal guitar sound out of Guitar Rig. I just can't seem to nail it, though I still like Guitar Rig a lot. Do you find Rammfire is a big step up from the included amps in Guitar Rig 5? I've been wondering whether to pick it up or not. |

thanks for listening and for the suggstion. as for the songwriting, you are pointing out something that everyone tells me... to create some more thicken "wall" of sound during the solo and in some other part... I just started from rammfire, and i actually like it, even if i used a lot of eq after it, cutting frequencies bands here and there. so i cannot compare to the other amps present in GR, sorry! |

during the solo, if you could have a bass line that 'pops' it would do a lot to 'fill in' around the guitar. tasty guitar riffs, by the way...
but yeah, i'm not hearing any bass line... nothing distinct in the mix, in any event. also, the drums could be louder. with this mix, what really stand out are the vocals/guitars. these both sound _really_ good. so, you're on the verge of something really epic here. as it is, it's quite good; but it could be 'better'. ...it just needs more 'pop' and/or 'clarity' from the drums/bassline. ymmv |
