Everyone,

I am interested in using an iPad in a live setting instead of a laptop.

My question is this, is there a good midi sequencer out there that will also playback a backing track? I would like to combine both sequesnces and audio.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Joe

GarageBand is pretty cool, if its only MIDI and audio from the app and not recorded audio try out SampleTank iOS. Easily one of the best sounding workstation apps on iOS.

Check out Meteor Multitrack Recorder. It got both audio & midi tracks. It even got sidechaining. Be aware though that most of its effects, synths & the midi editor has to be bought as in-app purchases, so it could add up to a fair amount of $.

I really like Nanostudio & Beatmaker 2, but neither of them got audio tracks yet. I think both of them will have audio tracks in near future. They both got samplers though so you could use audiofiles with them.[/url]

I actually asked the same question a few days back. Check the thread because there were some good recommendations in it;

I'm looking forward to Auria, but it doesn't support midi (sequencing) yet.

I heard about this some time ago now. Any idea when this one will be released? The video demo on the website shows VST's working within the App. How does this work?!

+1 for Meteor here as well. Yes, it can become expesivish after in app purchases, but you can choose which ones are important to you and pay as you go.
To me, it's like a mini Cubase on iPad, love it Smile

+1 also for Meteor. It's definitely the most full-on DAW-ish app out there. I'm not sure how it would work in a live setting, as it's really geared more towards recording and mixing. But it's really stable, so it should work just fine.

You could also try some of the other "Studio" apps, but just import a wav of your backing track into the drum sampler (on NanoStudio for example) and then trigger it as a one-shot sample at the start of your song. I haven't tried this, so I don't know how well it would actually work.

It doesn't. It supports "VST Plugins (IOS Format)".

Auria Website wrote:
And because WaveMachine Labs is helping plugin manufacturers port their existing VST plugins to the iOS platform, more plugins will be available through In-App purchase soon.

In other words, they've called their proprietary format "VST (IOS Format)", but don't expect your existing plugs to work. In all likelihood, you'll be required to purchase any such "VST (IOS Format)" plugs through the in-app shop.
