I have always wondered how Dirty South is making his toms so good, its very attacky and has some sort of "swoop" effect that makes it totally outstanding from the track without having it annoying. Im trying with EQ but i cant get that sort of attack of it..
Listen to this example from 0.55 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lBaO5t1BPI |

It sounds to me like he is sample delaying it (in logic under the echo plug-ins). It delays the left and/or right of a sound by milliseconds and the result sounds super wide and on top of everything else.
I would never think to do it with a tom, but he has the bottom end cut so it sounds clickier. |
