So i owned the little AN200 groove box awhile back and that thing was one of my favorite synths of all time. I am looking for a VSTi synth as easy to program and has a similar tone/sound. I could skip out on all the drums, etc. However, the delay and reverb were also very nice on the AN200 if I remember correctly.
Anything out there with this sound and simplicity? I guess in ways it reminds of the Charlatan synth, but is lacking the BPM sync on the LFO and no FX section. I also think the AN200 had 2 LFO's which really allowed for more in depth modulations. I own the LinPlug Alpha, but it sounds digital and thin in comparison... ---- This is what I make: atmastudios ---------------------- with everything you do, do it with love and respect. ---------------------- |

Don't know about the an200 but this.
http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/an1x.php There is some sample sets of it somewhere. I believe I saw some pack for it, but no vst clone that I know of. It can be bought used for around 300usd though. I plan on getting it soon, but can't atm for various reasons. It's got a great sound though, as I got to try it out in a store before. The an1x is said by many users to be better than the an200 from what I read. |

I have an AN1x myself. I can only say one thing: GET IT! No VSTi is quite the same. |

The AN200 morphing feature looks pretty fun/cool. It's the only gear I'm contemplating getting besides the Roland MC-303 (for nostalgia). |

I've never played one, but I have an old Akai CD with sounds on it. If the sounds on the CD is any indication, it's a true proper analog monster. I looked into trying to make one in SE, but it was very hard. ANX-1 has some very special things going on under the hood. |

I owned An-1x couple of years, but sadly, few years ago i sold it, i needed money and that's the main reason. Like you said, An-1x has some special things and you can't re-produce that with samples. Very powerful effect was Aural Exciter and very strong oscilators. I think even An200 can't sound the same. I didn't owned An200, but i presume, An1-x is more special. Just my thought. If i'll have some extra money in the future, i'm gonna check for this synth again. |

Thankfully AN1x is not too expensive to get. |

there's an expansion card called Yamaha PLG150AN which can be insatlled in PCI card Yamaha SW1000XG. it is essentailly AN1X trimmed down in poly section. had it installed in CS6R and it sounded really descent and there's also PC editor for it (not VST though). |

And that's cheaper than a brand new Roland Gaia. If I had the money I'd pick the An1X in a heartbeat. |

I've been thinking of getting one of these for a long time. These early VA synths really intrigue me. Here's a youtube demo that skips the usual crap:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vZZ1cghfMg BTW, Gaia is an insult to synthesists everywhere >_<. Only good for touring with and getting battered up. |
