Not having gone through a major iOS upgrade before, what's the best approach? Do the upgrade on day one and just live without any music apps it might break, or wait it out as long as I can until the app updates start coming in? How long does it generally take devs to update their apps after a major iOS update?

Unless you are a developer ..

"iOS 6 is being made available to developers right away, but won't actually launch on consumer devices until later this year."

I done the update to iOS5 on day one on an iPhone 4 and iPad 1 and had no problems. Nearly every app was compatible with it before it was released anyway so I imagine it will be the same this time around.

It can take a long time to download on day one though as millions are trying to do the same all in one go so may be worth waiting a few days.

Has Apple lost the plot? Facebook integration into iOS6? Who gives a #$%& about facebook! I hope this is optional and can be fully disabled.

1. If it's like Twitter integration, then yes, it can be turned off. Rather, it's not on by default anyway, because it needs your account information.

2. Who cares about Facebook? Laughing You really need to ask that question, when there are 900 million active users worldwide, over half of that being accessed on mobile? I'm not a huge fan of FB, but it's a silly question to ask who cares about it.

Yeah the right question is not who cares? But why the hell do they care so much about it!

They should spend the time and money of the company somewhere else...

That's a valid question, but the answer is likely sad and disappointing. A quite a bit narcissistic.

Never update right away on any device you use for business or important fun or one that you have data on that you wouldn't want to lose and don't have a known good backup.

I always update when the updates are released, but only AFTER creating a back up.

How are you doing a backup? I've only been using my iPad a couple of months.

iOS updates are FAR less problematic than other OS upgrades. Hell, I'm still on snow leopard on my iMac for this reason.
