Is there something out there a bit like Ace, but not as CPU hungry?
I tried out the demo of it, and some presets work ok on my PC but others just kill it. Even on the less intense setting (I think it's called draft mode) some of the presets are just way too much for it. I like the modular setup it has, but it's just too much for my aging dual-core,and can't afford a new i7 machine right now. |

Sonigen modular. Cables, modules, good sound, it doesn't eat too much cpu. Right now it is beta and free. |

+1 for Sonigen Modular. I really like that there's a standalone version included. Runs fine on my dual-core XP laptop. |

Thanks Ingo Also The Xils3 LE is a full synth, full modular arcitecture, and is sold at a ridiculous price (39) Its also dongleless btw. I find it interesting how quick some peole are to suggest synths without asking some very important questions of the OP.
1. What sound(s) in ACE do you like? It's possible the sounds you like can be found in other subtractive synths, FM synths, or maybe even freebies. 2. Why are you interested in ACE in the first place? Is it the freely assignable architecture, the sound of the filters, the audio rate LFOs, or maybe just the presets? Without knowing the answers to those 2 questions I can't even begin to recommend another tool. |

I couldn't hear all the sounds/presets as many would max out my PC, so can't list which ones I like, and I am at work now too. 2. The main synths I have are Synthmaster, Wusikstation, OP-X Pro II, impOSCar, and Wusikstation. Synthmaster is semi-modular, but am insterested in having more of the modular-action going on in at least one synth of my collection. |

He said he liked the modular thing but not the cpu load. Knowing both synths, I keep saying that sonigen modular is a good alternative (Although I know they are quite different) |

For me the most similar experience is with ABL Pro. Similar virtual patch Cables and real nice analogish grumbling sounds.
You should definatelly give it a try |
