P16, some examples of "drops"... or whatever the kids are calling them (I think "bass drop" means something different these days A few simple descending ones in this tune... he uses them coming back around on the verse, then again each time through the chorus, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGI0hOD78zY&feature=relmfu A couple more here... a simple one at 0:30, and more complicated ones at 1:07, 2:48, 2:53 (slide up the A string & down the E string), etc... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbWddMrP2Og&feature=relmfu You get the idea... |

cheers, akj He already posted fret noise samples here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4926245#492624 5 I must have overlooked that. Thanks kbaccki for pouinting me to that and thanks so much Porject16 for providing these samples. Meanwhile, I created a first Kontakt version. It still does not feature keyswitch program - since I believe Project16 will at least be adding the x-notes (and hopefully some more), so that I will do it when it is complete. But what I have done so far should be quite usable (like mod wheel blending between the two pickups, release layer etc.) Here is an extract from the readme: 1. The Kontakt version is mapped differently. Instead ranging from C0 top D#3 it ranges from E1 to E4 (in order to stick more to the usual standard of mapping bass libs). Also, the release was set tighter (reduced from 100ms to 30 ms). 2. All NKIs/NKMs (expect those with the addition Runs Script), feature the following script: a) Humanizer (Kontakt factory script) b) Unisono-Portamento (Kontakt factory script allowing to play convincing trills etc. with mono mode activated) c) Machine Gun Killer (by Paul Warning which introduces robin round between zones) 3. Patches with the Addition "ATV" feature (monophonic) aftertouch vibrato, i.e. aftertouch controls volume and pitch so that you do not have a fixed vibrato but you can create any kind of vibrato with your fingers on an aftertouch keyboard 4. Pachtes with the addition "Runs Script" feature Michiel Daiman's runs script for dynamic slides. And here is the link: http://www.power-xs.net/download/Rickenbacker_4001_Kontakt.r ar (Just unzip and copy all files and folders into your Rickenbacker 4001 folder) edit: you need to copy the fretnoises from the quoted link above to your samples folder. But you will also need to copy these silence waves there which I use in the release layer: http://www.power-xs.net/download/Rickenbacker_4001_Additiona l_Samples.rar Have fun, AKJ |

Whoo! What a work AKJ!
I do not know well Kontakt but I tried and really it is cool. When I shall have stopped sampler "ghost note", I shall put them in download as well as furtures improvements (slides, pop, etc.) and if you want to continue the version for Kontakt, it would be really cool. Excellent!!! PS: I do not know if I well am understood because I use an on-line translator to write and read messages. |

You're understood very well, Project16, and even better understood is your kindness to fellow musicians in providing these excellent samples, and free of charge at that! Thank you very much indeed, and thank you very much, you guys who've stepped in and created the Kontakt version(s)! Kind regards, Joachim ---- If it were easy, anybody would do it! |

I will be happy to continue the Kontakt version. For the fx patch I guess it would be quite complete with the addition of pickup hits and slides. Ghost notes seem to be almost ready and sound great. So if you had time to do muted (picked and fingered), slap and pop articulations that would make it a quite complete bass library that could even compete with the better commercial offerings! But even if it stays as it is: it's a great sounding bass - for free: hard to beat! cheers, akj |

ps: for picked and fingered you have 5 velo layers. that's great, but I guess for additional articulations two (piano and forte) could be sufficient if we use Kontakt AET technology.

Personally I wouldn't go that route, because it limits what you can do on other platforms, for example SFZ. I'd say for some things like mute-staccato (not saying he should, but if he did), where there's not much overall tonality that one could get out of the note, then maybe no more than 3 layers would be sufficient. Certainly for percussive and FX, no more than 2. But for anything with signficant tone, timbre, etc., I would think you want to stick with 4+, depending on the articulation, and not rely on platform-specific mappings. Or, if you do "fake it", keep it in the realm of more common sampler features -- amp envelope trickery, filter modulation keyed from velocity, CC, whatever. Of course, that doesn't stop anybody from also having AET-specific patches. Anyway, my $0.02. |

agreed. more layers are better, but it is also time consuming for Project16. so if is is doing more layers: great! if not: AET (or other tricks in others platfporms) could compensate for less layers.

BTW, had a chance to play around a little bit with your patches last night. Thanks so much for spending the time on this! You've done some great work here with this mapping... Much appreciated! Given my time constraints, I played around mostly with the fingered patches. Couple of thoughts:
1.) You really don't need much out of that "machine gun" script, do you? 2.) Humanizer I settled on Volume = 10 from the default of 20 (IIRC)... all others 0 3.) The neck pickup set out of the gate is way louder than the bridge pickup set... I dialed back the neck pickup set to -2. 4.) For the pick1/2 selection I noticed you implemented that as a x-fade. That gives you the ability to do some cool tonal fx (e.g. combine w/ pitch wheel for a lively vibrato), but for basic "position switching" has volume implications. I tweaked mine to map CC1 to groups start instead of actual x-fade... and I also swapped bridge/neck pickups... so CC1 0-8 is the neck pickup, and 9-32 is the bridge pickup... In my mind, you play the "generic bass sound" by default @ CC1=0, then actively switch to the bridge pickup for that specific timbre. Then 32-80 or whatever are mutes, 81+ are slides/fx, etc. Anyway, that's what I've done in the past, rather than trying to remember the keyswitches... 5.) No velocity => volume mapping. Looks like you have envelope => volume, but the volume variance between the low and high velocity zones is really not there, IMO. To affect a "lighter" playing I added velocity => volume mod for each set, at a vlue of ~30%, +/-... so, volume is affected, but not significantly. Just enough to play lightly. Anyway, just some thoughts on the mapping. Again, fantsastic job with this... I'm definately going to be using this bass! |
