Hey michi,
I've been beta testing the software for the last 4 or so months and every bug I've personally found has been fixed, I haven't come across any big showstoppers like you have. Might be a good idea to shoot an email to betazoid@acoustica.com so they know you're having an issue. |

Crashed on launch for me. Relaunch as admin, it ran fine. Observations...
The demo song sounds terribly smashed to me, nice song, crappy mix. I played with this before and I don't particularly agree with it being a good GUI design. You really do need a large monitor for it to work well, which seems to be contrary to it's class. It works much better with two monitors, like Cubase, but on a laptop it's a bit cluttered. The mixer (on a laptop) is an awful waste of space. I actually had some email correspondence with the devs about that during the beta. On the plus side, probably the best video editing integration I've seen in any DAW. If you're going to allow editing video in your audio workstation, this is the general path to take, and I think they did that really, really well. Nice application for $79. I assume it will continue to develop. I do plan to load it in the studio and remix that demo, that mix kinda sucks. |

Ok, maybe the Acoustica devs are lurking so... I'll take note of some things as I remix this demo...
1. I detached the mixer on monitor 2 and (again) it's a humongous waste of space. Tiny little fader caps, really tall meters, no inserts or sends visible. Full Screen Mixer 2. I loaded the Acoustica EQ to start EQ'ing the drums and I can barely read the frequencies at the bottom due to the graphic shading in the background. In this case functionality should always trump looks and that shading is a detriment to actually working. I have lean way forward just to read that text beneath the frequency bands... Acoustica EQ P.S. It crashed as soon as I started using my third party plugs so... no joy.
Think I'll export stems and remix this in Reaper or something. |

Okey dokey smokey ....
Their mix from their demo: Rapunzel A My quick mix using the OGG files: Rapunzel B Nice song. I actually like the way they did the intro better. I just tried to dial in some clarity and leave some dynamics. The OH drum track kinda bites, so it is what it is. I left the piano track out of my mix, it kinda sucked a little and was cloudy / verby. It's really odd to see files actually clipped in a manufacturer demo song as some of these files are. I left the acoustic guitar as is, no amp sim. I like the guitar tone on their mix, even if the mix is kinda smashed. I do think developers should work a little harder on their demo mixes, if the point is to demonstrate what the app is capable of with it's own plugs, but I don't think I could've gotten here with it's own plugs, and it would have taken a heck of a lot longer in any case. Anyway... I think Mixcraft has a really bright future but I think anyone recording and mixing audio would be much better off spending their $60-70 on Reaper or something. Mmv on that as usual. |

I have been using Mixcraft off and on since version 2. for fast track laying it is hard to beat. And I have used it to record overdub, and main vocal track parts for more than on CD. Its a great little program. Never had any major problems using that. Something I can't say about Reaper |

I have been beta testing Mixcraft since v.5, and I have to say it's come along way since then.
My main issue with MC5 was that it kept hanging up during the initial plugin scan due to my huge VST arsenal. Their solution back then was to eliminate some of my plugins!!! Umm, no. They seem to have done something to address that with MC6. Each successive build loaded rather quickly, and never hung up. I have to agree with the nice video integration, however limited format options leave some pretty huge rendered video files. I crashed MC6 every time I used it...everything from tweeking a control to loading a 3rd party plugin that it didn't seem to like. Sometimes it would crash so fast I didn't even know what crashed it, so I couldn't really file a bug report. The Sample Library is quite extensive, and the quality pretty good, but I'm really not a fan of the "downloading" every time I want to use a sample. That should be instantaneous. Time may not always be money...but it's time none the less. The VST/Instrument page is hideous...looks like a spread sheet, and when you close it it closes the plugin GUI as well. I might have missed something, but I never have found an effective way to minimize and recall my VST back to the screen. I do think the new mixer is a %100 percent improvement over MC5's mixer. The programs interface has come along way. I'm still not wild about it, but it's getting better. The Piano Roll is still kinda clunky, but I'm kinda spoiled with FL Studio's Piano Roll. But hey. It does what it's supposed to do, the price is right, and as an entry level DAW, once you learn it, it will get the job done. ---- Musical Style: Psychotic Northwoods Basement Trash |

I find it strange reading some of these reactions. I've used Mixcraft 5 for over a year, and just got 6 yesterday, and it's been nothing but good improvements. No crashes, and no problems with my third party plugins (I use mainly EastWest if it matters, but I've used tons of others in it as well).
It loaded up all my version 5 projects perfectly, the new midi editor and recording functions are fantastic, and the new looks is really sleek. I love it. |

why?, if it crashes or does not function properly it crashes or does not function properly... Because I've never seen it crash, and it's always functioned properly for me, thus I find it surprising that other people are having problems. |

I have to give a positive shout out to the Mixcraft people. I'm clearly not a future buyer, but they care enough about their product that they actually emailed me about my crash report here. That tells me two things...
1. They care more about fixing issues than over reacting to perceived criticism. 2. They want the product to work reliably for everyone, and with that kind of positive attitude I have no doubt they'll continue to succeed. Props. Respect. |

I think MichiMak wins the consolation prize, considering the MixCraft slogan "Now it's ON!" Yeah, no one wants to restart their computer just because they clicked on the wrong application Tech tip, a 64-bit CPU and OS would not have required a restart. The program would have crashed to desktop. Another benefit of x64 based DAW. ---- ![]() |
