Retro Machines for Kontakt as part of Komplete 8

I recently upgraded to Komplete 8. Using the instructions on the Muse support site, I successfully installed and authorized it all on my 2 Receptors. Long copying, but easy, and it just worked!

I just received an email from NI that said "Your KOMPLETE 8 or KOMPLETE 8 ULTIMATE purchase includes a free copy of RETRO MACHINES MK2. This high-quality collection of vintage synth sounds isn't included on your installation DVDs or hard drive — download it separately, using the link below."

I did, but am now at a bit of a loss as to how to properly install it. It is a Kontakt library, but the things I have tried (including installing it on my computer and then copying it over) have not worked. Kontakt cannot add it as a library, and Service Center doesn't see it.

This is going to occur again, as I also just received an email from NI indicating "We've updated the ABBEY ROAD DRUMS Series to take advantage of developments in KONTAKT 5. Your link and serial number are below. Please note that the new version doesn't replace your current product - you can install both versions on the same computer."

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you're on Windows you should have downloaded 2 files, Retro_Machines_Mk2_100.exe and Retro_Machines_Mk2_100.iso
Use the first one to install the second.

Thanks.

I did download those files.

To install on the Receptor involves copying the Windows files to the "Drop Installers Here" folder, or, installing on a computer and then copying the (resulting) installation to the Receptor. Neither of these methods work.

The installer (.exe) does not find the ISO if run on the Receptor, even if it's there in the same directory, or even if the files on the ISO are extracted and put in the same directory. The installer is looking for the ISO contents, primarily the .pkg files, and not finding them. The code that lets Windows spoof a drive by mounting the ISO does not work on the Receptor as it is driver based.

When the computer installed version is copied to the Receptor, Kontakt will not add it even if pointed to it, and Service Center will not see it at all.

Perhaps I'm missing something conceptual here. I have had Kompletes since 3 on Receptors, and installing after-the-initial add ons or updates has always been hit or miss...

I'd hazard a guess and say that your DL probably ended prematurely and so that is the reason it will not install.

If you look on the NI forums at some of the older posts about Retro Machines a lot of people had this problem.

I would check that the checksum value matches to confirm that the whole file DL properly, and also use a DL manager if you attempt to re-DL it to make sure that you receive the whole thing uncorrupted.

Hope this helps.

I was not able to add NI libraries to Kontakt 5 until I installed 3.5. That being said, I haven't had any luck with the newer instruments such as retro machines, session strings or razor.

This is something we are looking into. We have 2 problems here. First there is an issue with typical installs. The way it should work is to take the ISO contents (including hidden files) and drag it into "drop installers here", then run the install. It should install correctly and place registries keys and files where they need to be, but unfortunately the installer reports "please run from original disk". From my experience this is happening on all ISO downloads from NI.

The second problem is that you cannot add a library using the old method. This is because the library folder does not have the typical files needed for Kontakt 3.5 to add the library. Usually the older libraries came with NKX and NKC files that designated it a library. These are missing now. We will continue to try and find a solution to this problem. No luck yet, but will let you know when we find something.

Just out of curiosity, does Muse have some kind of information flow with NI? I would think that NI engineering would be able to help with this. Presumably your licensing agreement with them includes some technical resourcing/support.

Thanks,

We have a great relationship with NI. The receptor is just so different than the platforms they are engineering on, these hiccups can be mind boggling.
