I think a question like this is pretty meaningless unless there were a file standard like PSD or XLS involved. With DAWs there is no common project file type so no one product really gains lasting dominance, probably to our advantage on one hand but wouldn't it be cool to be able to work on a project in one DAW and then just open the same file in another to continue working? With all the plugins and stuff I know that isn't going to happen but a boy can dream.

They are Second hand Macs, cheapest is £720 - Logic is £200 so around £1000

I have a normal PC with OSX and win 7 on it. Thast the cheapest option of all but can be rather tricky to get working with some PCs.

a while back i saw people selling macs second hand bundled with logic together, i think they were selling their old ones to get new. i was hoping to see if any one knows the best place to find a good deal on something like this and for around the few hundred pounds mark as i cant quite stretch to a £1000 at the minute for the mac alone. Sometime in the future perhaps, but as for now ill stick with the emagic. I was wondering what are the main differences between logics work flow on the pc version compared with the mac- is it still the same names and stuff, such as the hyper editor, instrument, bus and midi channel seperate setups on the mixer??? info please if you will. The problem with emagic is it really looks dated, a bit like cubase vst32 - you can tell these two programs were really very similar in terms of looks and functionality but the fx are terrific in logic. I love the compressor and the plug in thats similar to the aphex hi freq simulator, ive not heard any as good as this one. Anyone looking for a compressor similar to that one out of emagic logic should try the tokyo dawn feedback compressor version 3 i think,
very similar in terms of envelope and amplitube make up gain as well as really smooth attack and release stages, food for thought i guess.

You wont get a current Mac for a few hundred pounds. The Logic you have is totally different to the current Logic 9 :

Its just a DAW though. It wont make you a better musician, nor will it make better stuff that what you have now. Thats the whole point of the thread

Yeah, but it does look good and the included effects are whats really making me want to get it. Ive just spent a lot of money on pc stuff and a lot of vsts, most of which probably wouldnt work on mac, so i guess ive got some thinking to do. The thing is im happy with what ive got but every time i watch the video tutorials or people using Logic, it seems very stable and all self contained, and this vastly improves my creativity as there is nothing worse than sittig down to make some music fresh and finding 30-60 minutes going buy just on stupid things that go wrong and get in the way. this is whats so compelling about reason 6, but i miss all the proper track editing and plugin varieties of a full blown DAW with surround mix capabilities.

I didn't read the entire thread, but one reason I could imagine (I don't use Logic) is the comfort of using a DAW that's being developed along side the hardware and the operating system. It's pretty much the closest thing to having a dedicated hardware DAW that you'll find. I'm sure this doesn't always happen, but I imagine that when "Ocelot" gets released the engineers over working on Logic have had a lot of time and communication with the OS engineers who (hopefully) are all talking to the hardware engineers. Of course I'm sure in practice it's not as smooth as all this, but it's got to be a lot better than the average software/hardware developer interaction.

...at least it seemed this way when I was all Macintosh. I almost bought a new PC a little while ago, but instead decided to funnel the money into some more hardware. Slowly but surely I've become less and less reliant on VSTs and now that the dust has settled I would probably go for a referbished Mac Pro 4 or 8 core machine and Logic. My world of Windows has been OK, but it's never been as good or as smooth a system as when I was using my G5... which, btw, I still have and it runs like a top. My only issue with it is developers (including Apple) just aren't developing for the old PowerPC chipset. My last machine was almost a Mac, but there were a few plugs that were keeping me bound to the Windows operating system. Since then I've become less and less reliant on them and at this point I don't think there's all that much I'd totally miss. Maybe some of the Windows only Image-Line stuff... but I bet I'd get over it pretty quickly.

stable? i think you will be disappointed with Logic, it's as buggy as hell. i wouldn't get too excited about the audio editing either. i used Logic for 8 years and thought it was great until i tried Pro Tools at uni. now that's a good audio editing workflow.
