ARGH. I lost my old program, and cant find it again.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a free wav to mp3 converter? Googling it yields... a mess.

I usually encode from SoundForge but you can get the free "WAV to MP3 Encoder" which is good enough

I use LAME or FFMpeg from the Audacity install I have. Yes, they're command line tools. Yes, I've written BAT files to wrap them, so I can just right-click a file and Sent To {my bat file} to convert.

Me too, the free Foobar can do basically anything, the stuff needed to do it is linked to from their site. I do mp3 to wav also, for quick testing in Savihost.

Another vote for Foobar, and it can do so much more. Basically, I can put any audio file into it and convert to anything else easily. Not to mention that it's one of the best audio players out there. In just a few megabytes, you get everything, and it's free. It uses Lame MP3 encoder which I use for many years now and I can't complain about its quality. Although, I personally use WavPack for my archiving needs, but MP3 is handy for sending tracks over e-mail and the difference is not really so big at 256kbps or more.

Cheers!

I just export as mp3 from Sonar X1. I have both the LAME encoder and the Cakewalk.
