Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way, or quick way to tempo sync midi events in reaper. I have this piano midi event but the midi notes are well out of time to the host tempo. The midi is pretty hectic and busy so I was wondering if this is at all possible? Im still pretty new to Reaper. Thanks in advance. ---- Life's too short to program soft synths, that's why we have romplers. Last edited by Mikelo on Sat May 26, 2012 8:25 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I don't think I have an answer for you but just so that I'm following....you have a midi clip that you are wanting to sync something else to? Or you wanting reaper to follow that piece (maybe hoping that the ts/tempo/etc would somehow follow?) |

I dragged and dropped a midi file to reaper but the file runs at another speed, more around the 70 to 75 mark. It's a busy little piano piece and I was wondering if Reaper could lock it's (imported midi files) to project tempo. ---- Life's too short to program soft synths, that's why we have romplers. |

somewhere in the project specific settings there is a setting for "timebase" and it should say "beats and bars" - just a shoot in the dark Thanks, I'll look into that. I though midi would just lock to project tempo.Like I said, still a little wet behing the ears with Reaper (x Cubase user)! ---- Life's too short to program soft synths, that's why we have romplers. |

If the clip had the tempo embedded then you'd be golden. Should be able to adjust the tempo properly. There are setting that allow midi to adjust to the tempo changes but honestly I don't remember where they are. I'd bet kenny gioia would know, has his own little sub forum in the general discussion area |

Is it a specific number of measures long? I think setting to measures/beats may be the key thing there. But if it is set to measures/beats, you could then click on the clip and alt/drag it to change the clip tempo and maybe it will be easiest to adjust that way? |

The midi clip was originally a piano audio Wav sample I have from a Prime Loops audio collection I purchased some time ago, "R&B Progressions" to be exact.
Originally, the audio clip was running at 70 or 75 bpm. At the time, I downloaded a trial version of Melodyne editor (DNA poly version) and ran the audio sample through that and saved the midi conversion as a file in its original tempo. Now after a while, I deceided I liked the piano audio sample so much, I created my current project around it, chopping and changing the loop. Then I remembered I saved the midi file of the sample and thought I'd use this instead of just wav files to give me more flexibility. This would give me a chance to add to the piano piece and also the luxury of using one of my current Kontakt sample libraires. Where my current project runs at 85 bpm, the midi file is still running at its original tempo. If it was an easier piano piece, I would have less of a problem adjusting but as its a bit of a three handed playing piece, or just my in ability to be a perfect keyboard player, its a bit of a nightmare. Plus the Melodyne demo is long expired ---- Life's too short to program soft synths, that's why we have romplers. |

My guess is the alt-drag thing would work easily, if it is say 4 bars, it will appear shorter than the project tempo in Reaper (maybe 3.5 bars long or something), right? Just click the right edge of the clip while clicking ALT, it will show a little hand, (do this with snap on) and then drag it so it fits the project's 4 bar time (or whatever the clip length is). |
