I did see something like this in another post, but I wanted to be sure we are talking the same language. This post also relates to my other post.

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=350827

In order to take full advantage of using something like Genome MIDI, Alchemy Mobile would first need to support Background Audio on the iPad. Meaning, if both Alchemy Mobile and Genome MIDI are 'open,' I can make changes to Genome MIDI while Alchemy Mobile is still playing in the background.

Right now, if Alchemy Mobile is playing and I bring up another App such as a MIDI controller, the Alchemy Mobile audio cuts off.

Thanks, Craig

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the feature suggestion. Yes, that would certainly be helpful when sequencing Alchemy Mobile from another app, and it may well become an option in a future update.

Edit: Whoops! I got thrown off a bit there too. Sorry for the misinformation! Smile

The Pro Upgrade for Alchemy Mobile has an option for "Virtual MIDI" (which is what I think you mean by "background audio?). It's on the MIDI menu, but is not enabled by default. Turn Virtual MIDI on and select a CPU mode (low / medium / high), and you can sequence from Genome with Alchemy Mobile running in the background.

If this is not working, check the MIDI out channel in Genome (or whatever sequencer you're using). There is a new MIDI configuration screen in Alchemy Mobile where you can set the MIDI channel(s) the app will receive from.

What I meant in the other thread is that MIDI CC and MIDI Program Change are not currently recognised by Alchemy Mobile, but this will likely change with a future upgrade.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Peace,
Andy.

LOL - I almost had a heart attack - I thought that the pro version had the background audio removed! Shocked Thank goodness I was wrong! Very Happy

Look in the Menu under MIDI. Turn the Virtual Midi on - it should ask you for a latency time - High, Medium or Low. Then once you select it, select the Configuration tab above MIDI Out. This is where you can select which midi ports - AND CHANNELS (thank you, thank you , thank you!).

If you have Genome or StepPolyArp running, etc. you should see it as an available connection. Pick a sound you like then switch to the other app and make adjustments as needed.

I'm sitting here happily listening to StepPolyArp play a nice pattern on Alchemy Mobile. Very Happy

Andy and Dave,
My bad. I am used to have a specific Background button and did not associate Virtual MIDI with this. I too am very happily sitting here with SoundPrism running the bass notes in to Alchemy and the touch 2 in to nLog. Much fun.

I shall now go and put on the cone of shame.

Thank heavens for good indexing and search capability — have been grappling with the whole issue of background audio from Alchemy Pro Mobile from Day One and here was the solution!

Thanks, folks!
