I was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to tell me how to make a Saw Distorted bass in Zebra?

You know, the one that sounds like a big fart.

Try using the shapers (wedge or t-drive mode) and the XMF overdrive knob (bring the sawtooth wave OSC volume way, way down first). Also try right-clicking at the top and switch between 2.3 and 2.5 mode. The 2.3 xmf filters can get really loud.

I'll try that tonight and post an update on whether it works.

I'd love to do a bass like this with the Zebra2, I know, somewhere, that it could do it much better than other synths!! Smile

Something a bit like this?..

All the way through this example, the parameters are constantly adjusted to find some good pockets ... but to accentuate "the fart (let's call them phase coloration fold-overs instead HiHi" I guess you'll just need a bit more drive..

Yes, that is the sound.

I am not as proficient with the Zebra as I would like to be. How did you accomplish that?

Either you take a simple saw and run it through Ohmicide or take this patch and:

...and finetune color with VCF1 cutoff .. color intensity VCF1 res (don't overdo it otherwise it will sound like a phaser)

use VCF2 drive to overdrive and VCF2 cutoff to finetune character.

Tank you very much for the link, I'll give it a try tonight.

And "carrot bass" - is that what the preset is called or is that the term?

I think 3ee is being a little clever with the name. Smile A normal saw wave has a linear slope wheras a distorted saw bass has much more lower harmonic frequencies -- making the waveform look a bit like 1/2 a carrot when sliced lengthwise.

haha I only used that to describe it for what it felt like for the moment (thick and nasal-woody character like a carrot) but the clever explanation is actually yours Brian. Smile

On a side-note a bit, I often find myself describing things like this and it's much entertaining when someone explains them to you so that it makes sense.

Well this isn't always like this ... but more like 50% of the times! Smile

Embarassed Embarassed I sometimes forget I don't exactly think like other people. I would have never made the association of woody bass -> carrot. Diversity in others is a wonderful thing. Smile
