Hi,

which brand of a hardware sound level meter is most effective in terms of price and quality/usability? I need to use it to decide how much isolation will I need in my new studio.

Thanks for any help in advance.

http://www.dorrough.com/, apparently with some people, thus the very expensive software emulation from waves:

If Radio Shack still offers one, that would be my vote. They have been staples in the recording studio community for decades. I've owned several and they've all been great.

Thanks really, but I'm supposed to get Hardware not software, something like RadioShak, you know. http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/spl-meter_e.html

Also do you think the ones made for mobile phones is any good?

Can't help you with this one, but I presume you're looking for a meter that measures soundpressure in a room? As opposed to levels from a line output of a mixer/soundcard?
The likes of Dorrough and RTS offer (to my knowledge) only the latter. And are ridiculously expensive.

Do you think any or all of these products could be taken seriously?

It looks like it, but then again looks can be deceiving. In all honesty the idea is brilliant. I hope they do the same for measuring room acoustics as well, seems like a decent price as well
